Lucan Bake Off Hi folks,

Thanks for taking an interest in a new initiative we are trying out as part of the family fun day. Please read the sections carefully, there should be something there for everyone to have a go at! Does Granny have that secret recipe for brown bread that you all reckon is the best ever? Does Dad fancy himself as the God of all things sweet? Or does Mam make the best jam EVER? Special section for kids too, so encourage them to be as imaginative as they want. All entries will be donated to the Tearooms after the judging, if you have extra’s left over from your baking, they can also be donated to the tearooms when you enter your goodies. Please read the rules at the bottom of the page.

Section 1; Kids U12 - Decorated Cup Cakes 6 cupcakes of any flavour, be imaginative!! - Healthy Cookie Plate Plate of 6 cookies, as big as you want… try thinking of alternatives to chocolate, may be dried fruits or nuts? - Yummy Cookie Plate Plate of 6 cookies, as luscious, chocolaty and morish as you can… Parents, by all means encourage and advise your kids but please allow them to make the final touches.

Section 2; Open to all Ages - Brown Bread (2lb tin) Reckon your Mam’s recipe was the best ever? This should be presented as a whole loaf, it will be cut and tasted, so no half loaves please - Brown Scone Plate 6 Scones again they will be cut and tasted. - White Scone Plate 6 Scones, cut and tasted. Feel free to put any flavour you feel gives your scone that special something, sultanas instead of raisins? Carrot and Bran??

Section 3; Open to all Ages - Novelty Cake (GAA Theme) This is all about the look, but it must be a real cake also!! Remember all entries will be donated to the Tearooms after the competition. - Chocolate Brownie How do you like yours? Soft and squidgy? With Pecan & Caramel? 6 pieces please, this will be tasted. - Carrot Cake (2lb tin) Had to add this, just to bring down the sugar rush for the judges!! Cut and tasted, same rules as the brown bread.

Section 4; Preserves - A pot of Strawberry Jam - A pot of Raspberry Jam - A pot of Jelly, any flavour - A pot of Chutney, any flavour

RULES - €2 for each entry, enter as many as you like. - Please give a description of your entry written or typed on a piece of plain white paper. i.e. Blackcurrant jelly or apricot cookies. - Avoid alcohol in icings or toppings - Entries should be put on a cake board or paper plate no bigger than 12 inches. Try not to use your good plates as we couldn’t guarantee their return. - Remember, you eat with your eyes first, if it looks good then chances are it will taste good, so make your jar tops pretty, nice dust of icing sugar on your scones, that special something that goes so good with your brown bread. - Make sure you don’t put your name anywhere on your entry. When you register your entry, a number will be put on it and a note will be made of who the number applies to, this is to ensure that the judges won’t know who they are judging.
