April 01, 2015

Minor Camogie League   Lucan v Clane  Sunday 22/3/15

Lucan Minor camogie players travelled outside Dublin for the first time in the league to play Clane in Round 4. Lucan ladies started strongly and struck first with a goal and a point to signal their intent. Holly Gargan slotted home a goal and the point was scored by Grainne Eley to set Lucan on their way. Lucan got quickly into their stride. Orlaith Murphy and Meabh Dowler were winning the midfield battle and a great delivery from Meabh found its way to Claire Leonard who cooly slotted home her first goal of the match.  Orlaith covered a lot of ground and fired over two classy points from play. Clane’s first goal dropped in from a free.

Nicole Fitzgibbon in goals had excellent puckouts and was given fantastic protection by the full back line of Alanna Porter, Niamh O Connor and Rachel O Neill who made countless vital interceptions.  Niamh's long relieving clearances found a lively half forward line of Katie Feeney, Grainne Eley and Aoife McKearney.  Aoife scored Lucans third goal and a point from a free. Lucans confidence was high and Claire, Holly and Lucy Fleming were kept busy in the full forwards. Claire scored a further goal and point  to leave the half time score Lucan 4-5 to Clane 1-1.

The second half saw Clane with more possession but Lucan’s tough tackling half back line of Julie Kelly, Avril Quinn and Kelsey Fahy provided the best of defensive cover and their blocking and hooking was a feature of the game. Fiona Daly and Katie Hegarty joined the fray and got into the thick of the action. Clane scored a goal and a point from play and even though Lucan played well after the interval they failed to turn their advantage into scores. Grainne got Lucan’s only score of the second half and while scoring slowed up considerably on the resumption of play the Lucan ladies were always heading towards victory. Full time score Lucan 4-6 ;  Clane 2-2.
