Good win for Lucan senior camogie on the road

Senior One camogieLucan 0-15 Clara (Kilkenny) 3-3This was another good performance by the Lucan senior one camogie team against a dogged Clara outfit played in tough conditions in the soggy south east on Saturday 14th March. Aisling Nolan was outstanding for Clara in the early exchanges which were dominated by the home side without really making it count on the board (1-1 to 0-0) after ten minutes. At this stage Katie Feeney and Orlaith Murphy were coping very well with everything Clara could muster.Laura O’Mahony then took the game to the Cats with two inspirational points on foot of her trademark direct runs at the heart of the defence as Lucan responded well. Ciara Casey slotted two hard enough frees and then Nicole Fitzgibbon added to the tally with two opportunistic points of her own. She’s very accurate. That made it 0-6 to 1-1 after 22 minutes.  This was a fair reflection of the Lucan girls’ superiority at that stage where the athletic Sinead O’Toole and Laura Murtagh were dictating matters in midfield. Two more points by the un-stoppable O’Mahony  - along with one from Murtagh - stretched the Lucan lead once more to leave the half-time score 0-9 to 1-2 in favour of the visitors.Annemarie Courtney at number six was the pivot on which all Lucan’s good work rested. Outstanding display. The fact that the Cats failed to raise a white flag for 26 minutes in the half tells its own story about the Lucan resistance and huge work-rate all over the field. Lucan commenced the second half where they ended the first. Great bouts of passing led to further points by Laura O’Mahony and Nicole Fitzgibbon. Clara were creaking at this stage (0-11 to 1-2).Then, the game almost turned. Clara improbably got through for two goals within a minute – one a brilliant effort and the other far more fortuitous -   to put the home side somewhat improbably into a one point lead (3-3 to 0-11) after 48 minutes. This was game on big style. Lucan’s superior hurling –and increasingly resilient mindsets -  then became evident, none more so than in the person of Siobhan Grimes. She moved to centre-back at that stage and  weaved her magic to increasing effect. Her move out the field released Annemarie Courtney to midfield where the latter effectively won the game for Lucan with two brilliant points from the middle of the park.  The two assists from Sam Fitzgerald (ar luas lasrach) were spectacular. Ciara Casey tacked on a further free before Sinead O’Toole’s late rasper was brilliantly deflected over the bar to give the spoils to the visitors by 0-15 to 3-3.The three point margin fairly flattered the home side.Ciara Casey had another good day winning ball on the ground and linking the play with her quick accurate passing. Meabh Dowler saw as much ball as anybody on the field. Very happy with her.All-action Laura Murtagh was excellent throughout while Laura O'Mahony made a huge contribution. She has great hands. Jess Condron continued her recent good form with aggressive play and solid first touches. This was another very encouraging display from Lucan.Lucan Scorers:  Laura O’Mahony 0-5, Ciara Casey 0-3,  Nicole Fitzgibbon 0-3, Annemarie Courtney 0-2, Sinead O’Toole 0-1, Laura Murtagh 0-1.SOTS : Annemarie Courtney (also very honourable mention to Siobhan Grimes, Laura O’Mahony, Ciara Casey and Sinead O’Toole.)
