Saturday 21^st February 2015 may well be a milestone date in the history of many of these young Lucan hurlers and indeed the club itself.  Lucan fielded a magnificent SEVEN teams in the under 8 hurling league for the first time ever! Great credit to Johnny, Donal and all in the Lucan Academy for this achievement.

The team fixtures pitted Lucan’s three team Green squad away to Kilmacud with the two team Black squad facing Naomh Olaf at 10am in Adamstown followed by the two team White squad playing Cuala also in Adamstown.

The young boys were bursting with enthusiasm to get underway and despite near artic conditions the lads tore into the matches and their opponents. All the matches were close fought with some fantastic skill and teamwork being shown by the boys in green.  Lucan scored what must be surely the quickest goal of the weekend and probably the quickest start to any hurling career when young Liam Whelan banged home the opening goal for the Black squad in less than three seconds from the throw in! The Go Games rules really suits these lads as they alternated seamlessly between goals, backs, midfields and forward without a murmur and battled away for their team in every position. At the end of a memorable mornings hurling and with tired legs and numb fingers, it was great to see the lads still smiling and enjoying the experience. Oh to be young again!

Here’s wishing all the boys, their coaches, mentors and supporters years of happy times ahead in the green of Lucan or even the blue of Dublin!
