Lucan Sarsfields 2007 Boys begin their Gaelic Football journey!!

After graduating from the Lucan Sarsfields Nursery (Academy) and in preparation for their move to U8 in the New Year, the 2007 boys began training as new group for the first time in September 2014. By Christmas we had almost 50 regular players and it was decided to enter 7 Lucan teams for the first time, which meant that Lucan would be fielding teams in three different U8 Go-Games blitzes every weekend.

By the time the league was due to start in February, numbers had grown further thanks to the return of some boys who had previously attended Nursery and with the addition of some new boys recruited by GPO Johnny McCaffrey on his school visits.

It was with great excitement & anticipation that the Lucan Sarsfields Boys wore the club colours for their first official football matches on Feb 7th2015.  The ‘White’ team travelled to Kiltipper to play Thomas Davis in a 2-team group, while the ‘Green’ team were up against St Judes in Adamstown in a 3-team group and the ‘Black’ team palyed Thomas Davis in the 12th Lock in another 2-team group.  53 Lucan players in total participated in what was a great days football for all concerned.  The Go-Games rules mean that all players got to experience the different playing positions for each half of their two 20-minute games which in turn maximised the involvement & FUN for all boys.  It was also great to see the teamwork and footballing skills on display from the Lucan boys who competed enthusiastically for every ball and combined with some excellent hand & kick passing to work the ball upfield for some wonderful scores.

The boys have since played 2 further rounds of the U8 Football league.  On Feb 14th the ‘Green’ team travelled to Geraldine Morans in Cornelscourt with the ‘White’ team hosting St Annes in Adamstown and the ‘Black’ team travelling to Saggart to play St Marys.  On Feb 28th the 3rd round of the league saw the ‘White’ team travel to play Templeogue Synge Street in Terenure VEC, while the ‘Black’ team hosted Naomh Olaf and the ‘Green’ team played  Templeogue Synge Street in Adamstown.  On both of these weekends Lucan again fielded 51 & 53 players respectively with some great footballing skills on display.

Well done to all boys on the great effort so far and thanks to parents for their support in ensuring the great turnout we have had despite the early starts each Saturday am.  Keep it up!!
