CCC1 Report –

U12 Hurling – Sat  21st Feb

Saturday just gone saw the U12 hurlers enter grading leagues with the following results

U12 Hurling 'A' Blitz Grp.1  Lucan Sarsfields 5-8 Nh Mearnog 3-6

Nh Mearnog arrived to AGP1 with a depleted squad which required a last minute reorganisation of the Lucan team fielding 11 rather than the planned 13.  This team are traditional slow starters but Saturday’s game was anything but that.  Within 10 minutes it was apparent the Lucan lads were bent on making the most of the strong wind at their backs and racked up 4 points without reply.  The full back line with Michael Young sitting in front of them easily dealt with any threat posed by the Mearnog forwards.  Brendan Kavanagh and Mathew Coogan bossed midfield and provided some great ammunition to the forwards who duly dispatched 1-8 in the first half.  Mearnog’s return for the same 25 minutes was a single point – a testament to the fine defensive work from all 4 backs and goalkeeper.

Lucan took to the field for the second half with a comfortable lead of 10 points.  Now with the wind at their backs and a little complacency in the Lucan play Nh Mearnog sensed an opportunity to make a comeback.  They battled hard and notched up 2-2 in a matter of 10 minutes.  Lucan settled into defensive mode but made efficient use of breakaway attacks putting away 4 goals in the process.  A flurry of late scores from Mearnog left the final score at 5-8 to  Lucan, 3-6 to Nh Mearnog

Squad: Danny McCarthy, Cillian Morrissey, Aidan Sheary, Diarmuid Keher, James Finn, Michael Young , Cillian Canavan (Capt), Neil O’Leary, Brendan Kavanagh, Hugh Cuffe, Matthew Coogan, Adam Whyte, Adam Gilmore, Louis Butler

Scores:  Too many to count

Man of Match : Michael Young

U12 Hurling 'C' Blitz Grp.3  Cuala 1-4 v Lucan Sarsfields 0-1

Lucan played with the wind in the first half and dominated the possession with the ball in the Cuala half of pitch the majority of the time. Lucan were unable to convert this territorial advantage into scores – with a lot of shots for points and goals just going narrowly wide. The poor luck in front of goal continued through the second half, with our defence under severe pressure throughout the half with Cuala now playing with the wind. This pressure eventually paid, with Cuala grabbing some late scores to run out winners.

Both the referee and opposition management were in agreement that the score line didn’t reflect the evenly matched affair – with conversion of chances being the difference between the two sides.Plenty for this team to play for in coming games with the return of three players, who were missing on Saturday, will strengthen our options going forward.

Squad: Joshua Brant, Ryan Brant, Jamie Ivory, Jamie Lavin , Shane Coffey, Darragh Burke, Sean Quigley, Ryan Fahy, Eoin Fitzpatrick, Brendan Harkin, Cian Ryan, Noah O’Kelly, Cathal Britton (Capt)

Score: Cian Ryan 1pt

Man of Match : Darragh Burke

U12 Hurling 'D' Blitz Grp.2  Na Fianna 1-1 v Lucan Sarsfields 3-3

With Na Fianna trying to move the fixture to an earlier time we did not know what to expect. On the Saturday we got off to a bad start with only 9 players available, but with a few hasty phone calls and Dave Norman to the rescue we got our 11 players. Going against the trend of previous matches we got off to a flying start. Robert and Conall on the full back line kept a clean sheet for the first half. Goals a plenty with 2 from Rory (one from a solo effort from the half way mark), followed by a belter from Darragh (he still thinks it was a point) and finally a hard fought goal from Conor Devlin. Halfway points from play by Rian and Cian, then to round things off Conor Cooper scores his first point from a free 20yrds out.Playing on grass was hard going but this only encouraged the team to lift the ball and strike.

Squad: Rory Barrett, Jake Lamkin, Dean Boylan, Mark Furniss, Robert Hazely, Rian Carey, Conor Devlin, Sean Norman, Conor Cooper (Capt.), Darragh Condron, Conall Morris, Cian McCormack

Scores:  Rory Barrett 2 goals, Conor Devlin 1 goal, Darragh Condron 1 Goal, Conor Cooper 1pt Free, Cian McCormack 1pt, Rian Carey 1pt.

Man of Match: Sean Norman

U11(2004)

Hurling is back but what an awful day to start 2015’s hurling journey.  However the hurling was anything but awful.  Our U11s playing 4 teams this year played home against Craobh Chiaran and away to St. Oliver Plunkets Eoghan Ruadh.

At AGP Sars won both games displaying some great interplay and teamwork to overcome a determined Craobh Chiaran side.  Both teams scored well from play and were very effective in the tackle and in tight play.  Playing in very cold conditions, both Sars teams kept warm by supporting each other in attack and defending well as a unit in defence.  Well done to all players: Scott O’Sullivan, Conor O’Neill, Conor Hylands, Conor Sheary, Cathal Doody, Joey Dunne, Gareth Kennedy, Jack Behan, Alex Hickey, Adam Duffy, Jack Doyle, Matthew Ryan, Matthew Byrne, Sam Donohoe, Jack Langan, Luke Trunk, Sean Fenlon, Conor King and Niall Carron.

The U11 hurlers also faced St. Oliver Plunketts and for the first time in either code in a very cold a windy Martin Savage Park on Saturday.    Despite the poor conditions and despite minimum warm up time for the lads, Sars  raced into an early lead with great scores from play, with great support teamwork from the lads.  Sars hurled brilliantly at midfield and the defense was been well marshalled with  rock solid performances from all concerned.  Lucan played superbly in the first half and despite playing against the wind closed out the game in emphatic style conceding only a single point in the 2nd half.  An excellent all round team performance from both Sars teams.
