March 24, 2014

Ladies Football U13 Kilmacud Corkes v Lucan Sarsfields Saturday March 22nd.

With a wet sod and under an ominous looking sky, Lucan were the visitors to Pairc De Burca in Stillorgan for todays Division 1 encounter with Kilmacud Crokes. Lucan had just 17 players as injuries and holidays depleted the team. Nonetheless they lined out as follows:
1. Abbie Shiels 2. Aoife Doyle 3. Katie Wisdom 4. Jennifer Ward 5. Molly O'Toole 6. Laura Lawless 7. Sarah Robinson 8. Zara Lawless 9. Emma Fallon 10. Maria Crowley 11. Laura Quinn 12. Aisling Grey 13. Ada Bowler 14. Hannah Morgan 15. Anna Cuffe.
Eager to get on from the sideline were 16. Niamh Stokes and 17. Eva Dunne.

From the throw in Kilmacud found themselves in front of the Lucan goal, but Abbie did well to clear. Lucan then had two sideline efforts in succession, the first was cleared the second was just wide before Laura got the scoreboard going with a fine point from distance. Kilmacud matched that before Aisling, Emma and Laura combined in some fantastic interplay which ended up with another Laura point. Kilmacud were showing they were up for it working up several scoring chances but with little return until they pointed a close in free.  At the back Molly, Sarah, Katie and Lolo were really on form, Zara and Laura swopped wides but when Maria won a Kilmacud kick out she dispatched the ball straight back in, somehow finding the net. Kilmacud quickly matched Maria's goal with two of their own and this was turning out to be an absolutely cracking game of football. Ada scored a sweet point from distance before converting a free. At this stage the sky was darkening and referee Craig Curtis blew for half time just as the heavens opened unloading a hail shower and sending everyone for cover.  Half Time score Kilmacud 2:01 Lucan 1:06.

The second half got underway, hail shower over, minor changes for Lucan, the two subs onto the full forward line with Aoife and Anna making way. Into a strong wind Lucan were up against it with Kilmacud scoring 4 unanswered points. Kilmacud were making good use of the high ball with the wind when Zara went high and fielded the ball beautifully (a rare skill in Ladies Football) from which Laura pointed. The wind was beginning to ease and Lucan started to win almost every Kilmacud kickout. Lucan's two 45" yielded no return but subsequent kick outs were won with Eva and Laura scoring. Maria's goal effort went narrowly wide. Molly got in on the scoring act with a point before Ada added a goal.

It finished Kilmacud 2:08 Lucan 3:10. Malteasters went to Aisling for a fantastic performance and to Laura for her sheer scoring prowess.
