Community Garden

We have recently started a community garden at the entrance to the club and want to make this a community garden. We need to keep it tidy, so we ask anybody passing by to pick weeds, give it a water on a hot day or add some plants/flowers. A huge thank you to Mike Hanley and everyone else involved in this great initiative.

Healthy Club

Our healthy club committee are facilitating another safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone), on Saturday 22nd June. Please see the link below to register.  We would encourage all mentors and parents to participate in this very important workshop.  Any questions please contact Audrey @ 087 2312560.

AIM: safeTALK is a 3½ hour ‘suicide alertness’ programme that prepares participants (over the age of 18 yrs.) to identify and engage with persons who may be having thoughts of suicide. Participants learn how to provide practical help by using the steps of TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep safe) and gain information on the supports and resources available locally, regionally and nationally. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the persons learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their community.

Hurling

While there were no games on the bank holiday weekend, our adult hurlers did have a round of mid-week fixtures last week. Four wins from five games played was the outcome with good wins for Seniors (v Cuala), Intermediates (v St Marks), Junior As (v OP/ER), and Junior Bs (v Erin’s Isle). All four of these teams are competing at the top end of their league tables with a few rounds to play. Our Junior C South team lost out in a competitive encounter against St James’ Gaels.

AHL1: Lucan Sarsfields 5-18  Cuala 0-16.

12th Lock, Wednesday 29/5/24.

Lucan seniors put in an impressive second half performance to record a good win over Cuala.  Lucan ledat half time, 3-7 to 0-13, but were flattered by that scoreline as Cuala were the more fluent side in that period. Goals from Darragh Lyons, Matt Coogan and a Ben Coffey free helped Lucan to an unlikely 3-point lead.  However, Lucan were much improved after the break and opened the second half with 1-6 without reply to effectively settle the issue.  Lucan held the visitors to just 3 points in the second period and ran out comfortable winners. The second half goals came from Matt Coogan and a Ben Coffey penalty.

The return of the lads involved with Dublin u20s, Jack Behan, Liam Garrigan, Cathal Kennedy and Massimo Pappalardo, added depth to the panel and each made a significant contribution.

Lucan team/scorers: C Murray, C Stritch, P Rigney, S Coffey, M McCaffrey, L Walsh, R Ward, C Keher(0-1), K Fitzgerald (0-2), M Coogan (2-1), B Coffey 2-8, 1-4f, 1-0p, 0-1 ‘65), C McHugh (0-1), C Dowling 0-3), D Lyons (1-0), L Garrigan. Subs introduced: C Kennedy (0-1), J Behan (0-1), B Kavanagh, S Langton, M Pappalardo.

AHL4: St Marks 1-9 Lucan Sarsfields 3-15.

McGee Park, 29th May 2024.

Lucan Sarsfields came out strong, taking an early lead with Ruairi Gleeson scoring the first point from play just 24 seconds into the match. Darragh Meehan quickly followed with another point. St Marks responded with a point from play. Lucan continued to dominate the early exchanges, with Gleeson and Meehan adding more points, making it 0-4 to 0-1 in Lucan's Favor by the 4th minute.

A brief respite for St Marks came in the 10th minute when they scored a goal, bringing the score closer at 1-1 to 0-5. Lucan struggled with accuracy, missing several attempts, including a free and another wide from play before the 16 minutes. St Marks seized the opportunity to narrow the gap further, scoring two points and a free. Marks game plan came undue when their 9 went to the dressing room for descent.

Meehan scored another point for Lucan, but further missed attempts by Lucan left the half-time score at 1-5 (8) for St Marks and 0-6 (6) for Lucan Sarsfields.

The second half saw Lucan Sarsfields taking control. Meehan opened the scoring with a point from a free. David Kavanagh scored a decisive goal 8 minutes in, propelling Lucan into the lead. This was followed by points from Kaygan Cooney and Paddy Ryan, and another free from Meehan.

Lucan continued to build their lead with goals from Colm Keenan and another from Kavanagh. Despite multiple wides, Lucan still created and added further points from play, with the final score standing at 3-15 (24) to 1-9 (12).

Key Performances of note go to Darragh Meehan who was instrumental for Lucan, scoring consistently from play and frees. David Kavanagh made a significant impact with two crucial goals. Lucan Sarsfields showed their strength in the second half, overcoming a half-time deficit to secure a convincing victory over St Marks. Despite some inaccuracies, their offensive pressure and key goals ensured a comfortable win.
