Hurling

This was the quarter final weekend for our u21 and minor teams. The u21A team won comfortably against Ballyboden and our B team also advanced to the semi final as Judes failed to field in Tymon. The next round should be on Saturday 18th November. On Sunday, the Minor A team overcame Ballinteer St Johns in a one sided contest before our Minor B team came from seven points down to pip Ballyboden in dramatic fashion. The Minor C match was called off as Kevins pitch was unplayable and will need to be refixed. See match reports below. Next Sunday, the Junior C's travel to Ballycullen to take on Ballyboden @2:30pm at the quarter final stage of their championship. This is our remaining adult hurling team and your support would be very welcome.

U21A Championship Quarter Final: Lucan Sarsfields 2-25 Ballyboden St Endas 1-15 12th Lock 4/11/2023

With just two players gone from last year's panel that won the u21 B Championship vs. Commercials, Lucan fielded a strong team and got off to an excellent start. A Charlie Kehir goal was the significant contribution to a 1-3 lead before Boden registered. This fast start was significant as Lucan maintained their advantage at the halfway point to lead 1-14 to 0-10. Although Boden scored three unanswered points themselves, they were generally kept at bay. None more so than Cathal Doody in goals fronted up as he made three significant saves. Sean Harkness popped eight scores - six from placed balls. Lucan were slightly stronger again on the resumption and added four more scores to the visitors' three. Ten minutes in, Harkness displayed smart footwork to round a defender and finish to the net. Doody again came to the fore and good handling and sharp reflexes kept out three further attacks. He was unlucky in failing to keep out a Boden penalty at the end of their five-minute purple patch . However, this was not enough to boost their cause as the home side added a further six points to the visitors one to finish with a wide margin between the teams. This was a strong all-round display but Doody, Harkness and Kehir caught the eye with Mathew Coogan's fielding and distribution also making a telling contribution.

Team and Scorers: C Doody; S Coffey, M Cunningham, A Hickey; J Behan, C Walsh (0-1), F Bruton; L Garrigan (0-3), M Gormley; H Cuffe, C Kehir (1-4), M Coogan (0-1); S Harkness (1-12: 0-8f), J Dunne (0-2), E Dowling (0-1); J Finn, B Kavanagh (0-1), M Young, J Doyle, E Kilduff

Minor A Championship Quarter Final: Lucan Sarsfields 4-19 Ballinteer St Johns 0-11 12th Lock 5/11/2023

A good crowd was in attendance on Sunday morning and the pitch looked well in the early sunshine. In racing parlance, Lucan made all in what ended up being a one-sided encounter. Although this dominance was not reflected on the scoreboard in the early stages - five points to one up after ten minutes and six points to three up after twenty minutes, Lucan were always comfortable. Two long balls into the Ballinteer goalmouth yielded two soft scores which took the stuffing out of the visitors. Lucan added a few more scores and led 3-9 to 0-4 at the break. Both sides added four points each in the third quarter but the tempo went out of the game. Lucan kept the pressure up however and added another 1-5 to ease to victory.

Team and Scorers: S O'Neill (1-0f); D Walsh, M Pappalardo, D Kane; E Conheady (1-0f), C Kennedy (0-1), S Langhton (0-1); R Clancy (0-1), P Ryan (0-1); C Greally, D Meehan (0-3), D Lyons (0-5: 0-3 f, 0-1 65); D Mulqueen (2-3), C Mulqueen, L Fitzgerald (0-1); C Coffey (0-1), R Kehir, S Bolger, C Morris, S Carolan (0-2).

LGFA

Junior A LF took to the field last Wednesday 1st Nov for the final Div 5 league match to determine where we would end up in the league table. A result on the night would be enough for Lucan to avoid an additional regulation playoff match against Castleknock B. Pitch 1 was in great condition thanks to the pitch maintenance group despite the recent rain. Lucan used the space well in the 1st half against a fancied St Finians of Swords who won our Junior C championship a few weeks back. Low scoring 1st half with the difference being a goal for Lucan 1-2 to 0-2. At half time you could see the Lucan girls knew they had a great chance in this game and were out for the 2nd half as Finians still huddled to come up with their own plan. The 2nd half performance from Lucan showed that they belonged in this division and despite Finians emptied the bence the game ended up in a draw which was enough for Lucan to finish outside the regulation bottom 4 play offs. Final Score was 1-6 to 0-9. It was a great finish to a long season that started in the ABC Gym the 1st Wed of Jan. Next up is our social end of year event and some rest for the girls and mentors before we go again for next season.

Under 15 Hurling Lucan 4.11 Sarsfields, Kilmacud Crokes 1.11

Sunday 5th November UCD Lucan had a fine performance against Kilmacud away on Sunday morning to get them a win that sends them into their final game against Castleknock knowing a win will see them clinching the Division 1 Hurling league title. The game opened brightly with lucan getting the opening point from David Coakley , but Crokes hit back with a fine goal. Lucan responded with a brace of Jack Mills points and it was nip and tuck for about 10mins. Lucan then began to find a flow with super interplay in the forwards with David Coakley getting in for 2 goals and Bill Donovan, Ferdia McDonagh and Páidi Murphy adding points. Kilmacud did keep the scoreboard moving though, but were still behind. Lucans backs broke attack after attack and patiently got themselves out and set up the Lucan attacks. With 5 minutes remaining in the half lucan were rampant with David Coakley flashing over a shot from 15 yards out. When Crokes conceded a free just outside the 21 Jack Mills went for broke with a powerful dipping shot Crokes could only parry with Páidi Murphy applying the final finish. Leaving it 3.06 to 1.05 at halftime.

The second half Lucan again got the first score with Henry Greene applying the finish after a good pass from David Coakley. Bill Donovan and David Coakley added further points. So even with Crokes keeping the scoreboard moving were finding it very hard to get momentum. The result was confirmed midway through the second half when Fionn Delaney was ever alert as a ball came back off the post when he finished with minimum fuss and Páidi Murphy pointed from next play. Crokes mounted a good number of attacks from there to the end of the game but a resolute goalkeeper Jack McCarthy and Defensive Unit were not willing to concede. So onto the last game now with chance to take the silverware.

Team: Jack McCarthy, Connal Duffy, Eoghan Murphy, Harry Lloyd, Ciaran O Sullivan, Brian Whelan, Danny Ryan, Bill Donovan, James Duffy, Jack Mills, Henry Greene, Davis Quinn, Ferdia McDonagh, Páidi Murphy, David Coakley, Liam Whelan, Fionn Delaney Donncha Hunt, Cathal Ryan.
