Club News

Another great week-end for our intercounty stars with three of our own doing club and county proud by lifting the Brendan Martin Cup. Congratulations to Abby Sheils, Sinead Daly and Paul Casey on their achievement.

Football

The first round of the adult football championship commenced last week-end with Lucan experimenting with some new set-ups at Senior and intermediate level that didn’t see instant results. Our Senior team faced a hungry Thomas Davis side who held Lucan against a strong breeze in the first half and then pushed on in the second to obtain a convincing win, final score was Lucan 1-09 Thomas Davis 3-12.

Intermediate All County Championship Lucan Sarsfields 1-10 Templeogue Synge Street 1-12. Dolphin Pk. 12/8/2023.

The Intermediates opened their campaign away to Templeogue Synge Street who fielded a young side, with Lucan having established players mixed with some youth. The first half Lucan lead 1-6 to 0-6 against a strong breeze. Lucan maintaining their advantage through some structured teamwork and established set plays, many of the scores for Templeogue came from frees. The second half looked promising if we could just keep our discipline and maintain our effort. Unfortunately this was a tail of two halves with Lucan losing the second half as Templeogue pitted stamina against experience, delivering results on a running game that allowed them to push on and win the game in this close encounter. Some work to do on our transitions and discipline in the tackle. Final score TSS 1-12 Lucan 1-10. Next up is Ballymun Kickhams away on the 26th August.

JFC 6 South Lucan Sarsfields 3-16 Ballyfermot De Salle 3-3

After an impressive league campaign, Lucan’s Junior C South team started championship off strong, leading after a couple of minutes by 4 points Our opposition were hungry for goal but super keeper Ian Brogan pulled off an amazing double save to deny them the back of the net. Alas after much scrambling that elusive goal was to be handed to Ballyfermot on a plate after a momentary lapse in the Lucan defence. Mention has to go to Ryan Brant, he’s played all over the pitch lately and every game he steps up to the plate and does whatever is asked from him. Another couple of points put Ballyfermot in the lead for what seemed like an age when in fact I’m told it was only for a couple of minutes.

Josh Brant scored a cracker of a point from his right foot, he’s a lefty all day long! Lucan went into the half time team talk a point up. Management made some serious changes bringing Shaun Keegan on and moving a fired up and ready to go Ryan Quinn into midfield after Jack McCarthy picked up an injury in the first few minutes of the game but battled on until half time. On also came Cillian Morrisey who was brilliant as always, defending and keeping them Ballyfermot lads at bay. Other subs introduced were David Donnelly and Matt Ryan both super players with the perfect attitude and commitment to the team.

Coaches were proactive and productive on the line, totally changing the flow of the game and playing into the wind was no effort at all for this young team. Strangely after one of the Lucan lads was awarded a particularly harsh black card it was like the team found an extra pep in their step and flew home to a final winning score of 3-16 to 3-3 with goals coming from Josh Charlie and Daragh Reid.

Some of the outstanding moments were Jake Mooneys score of the game, he’s hungry for that much coveted score of the year trophy at the end of the season. Mark Gormley and Neil O’Leary you both left lumps of yourselves on the pitch. Eoin Power, a power in defence. A rare yellow for Daragh Quinn (only his third one ever apparently, it’s ok Chucky we forgive you!!) Ian Crowley’s amazing work rate, he never stopped all game and made life very difficult for Ballyfermot. Ryan Quinn’s solid performance, Kevin O’Reilly setting up scores left right and centre. Adam Duffy and Ryan Quinn worked their socks off and Charlie Caseley controlled the game in the forwards effortlessly with a tally of 1-6 Josh Brant had an outstanding game scoring 1-6 and super points from Mark Daly and Daragh Reid in the dying minutes of this game showed us that each and every member of that team want to win!! A great start to championship for JC’S, next up St Brendan’s in Grangegorman on Sunday 27th August - all support welcomed

U12’s Trip to Croker

After meeting Abby Shiels and Sinead Daly at club football camp last week our U12 girls were very excited to see them in action in Croke Park. We arrived at the club on Sunday afternoon to be greeted by our lovely bus driver Tony from Beechfield coaches and set off for Croke Park. And what a day we had, the sun shone, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the match result was just what we wanted. After the match, as the crowds started to disperse we made our way down to the sideline, well as near as we could get and eagerly waited, in the hope that some of the Dublin ladies would come our way. Sinead was the first to spot us, and our girls were so delighted when she came over, talked to each one of them, took loads of photos and then went to get Abby. Likewise Abby also give us loads of time. The Brendan Martin cup then made its way to us and once again the cameras were out. Thank you Sinead and Abby you helped make our day that extra bit special. A day full of great memories for our u12 girls.

U10’s All Ireland Camogie Blitz

On August 6th the U10 Girls team hosted an All Ireland Camogie blitz which saw teams from Newcastlewest (Limerick), St John Carnlough (Antrim), Craanford Monaseed (Wexford) and two neighbouring rivals - Donard and Kiltegan from Wicklow.

The teams and their families were all welcomed by an army of well organised hosts and the fun began. Each team played three games and all the children of Prague worked their wonder and the rain was kept at bay until the medals were handed out and the tea was poured.

New friendships were forged and great skills were displayed by all 108 players on the day.

Everyone was fed and watered and headed into Croke park with the hope that Waterford would top off a great day (one of our Mentors is an optimistic Waterford supporter), but alas the ladies in red had something to say about that.

The lead camogie mentors were nabbed for an interview and you will see them soon on the Sunday panel...

We look forward to planning and hosting the next all Ireland blitz.

Thanks to everyone involved and all the sponsors - Camogie Association, Lidl and McElroys MEA Associates.
