The club will get an allocation of All Ireland Hurling Final tickets, a form will be provided in paper form in the bar and online to allow club members to enter the draw for tickets. Further details will be available in the coming week.

Competition was tough for the team of the week, but this week it has to go to our U16As who are division 1 league winners 2023. 

Lucan U16A footballers secured the 2023 division 1 league title after coming out on top in a battling performance against BBSE in Agp0 on Thursday last. Lucan had to deal with the setbacks of red & black cards which reduced them to 13 players in the second half and with BBSE throwing everything at them to level the game with 5 mins remaining, Lucan showed great resilience and composure to finish strong with a late goal & point to secure the victory they needed to win the league. 

Resilience, work-rate and strong finishes to games have been a hallmark of the 2023 league campaign for this Lucan team. 

A good opening round win away to Kilmacud was followed by wins away to OPER and at home to a strong St Judes side to put Lucan joint top after 3 games. A narrow Lucan loss away to a strong Na Fianna team put the unbeaten St Syls in the driving seat at the top of the division. Lucan returned to winning ways with a strong performance at home to TSS in round 5, before the defining match of the league pitted Lucan against St Syls in Malahide on May 18th. In what was effectively a league final for Syls, Lucan knew a victory for them would give them the head-to-head advantage and a chance to secure the league title in their final game. In what was their best performance of the season, Lucan played some excellent football to overcome a very strong Syls team in front of a big Malahide crowd and set them up for a shot at the league title, which Lucan duly secured at home to BBSE, after a 6 week league break, on July 6th.

What a fantastic achievement for this Lucan team, with the full squad of 23 players all playing their part across the 7 league games. We now look forward to the U16A championship in September, in what promises to be a very keenly contested competition, with several very good teams in strong contention. 

Football

AFL11

Junior C men’s football took runners up position in the division 11 south league on Sunday. Winning 11/13 games and with the best defensive record in the division. This young team have now a strong foundation and are targeting a championship trophy. Their manager now has them on a Strict hydration and nutrition diet coupled with a tough training regime until championship is over.

Hurling

Pride of place this week goes to our Junior A hurlers who secured promotion to Division 6 of the league with a play-off victory over St Brendans. This is another significant milestone on the significant progress of this team over a number of years, interrupted only by Covid. Meanwhile our Seniors concluded a satisfactory league campaign with a win over Kilmacud Crokes. Both sides were missing some of their more established names and it is sure to be a very different encounter when they meet in the opening round of the championship next Friday night, 7.30pm in O'Toole Park. The Junior Bs were beaten by Erins Isle in their Division 9 encounter while our Junior Cs lost out by 3 points to Geraldine Morans in Division 10. In the Minor leagues, our Minor C's lost out narrowly to Na Fianna while the Minor Bs received a walkover

AHL7 Promotion Play-off: Lucan Sarsfields 3-22 St Brendans 1-17 12th Lock, 4/7/23 

Lucan Junior As secured promotion in the league with this comprehensive win over St Brendans. An experienced Lucan side established dominance early on and built up a commanding lead with some excellent hurling. Two goals from Evan Lombard and a third from Paddy Brennan, along with accurate free taking by Ciaran Keane and some nice scores from Aidan Roche among others, helped them to a decisive advantage at half time, 3-12 to 0-9. The game was somewhat more even in the second half as Lucan dropped the intensity but they were never seriously threatened and ran out comfortable winners. Jack Doyle, Brendan McGarry and Mikey Young were most prominent in defence while Cathal O'Maolmhána and Mark Gormley had a good hour in midfield and Dylan Kelly, Keane and Roche showed well upfront. Lucan used the bench to good effect also demonstrating the strength in depth of this panel which will be important for tougher championship tests ahead.

AHL1: Lucan Sarsfields 2-23 Kilmacud Crokes 0-20. 12th Lock 26/6/23. 

Lucan Seniors concluded their Division 1 league campaign in positive fashion with a nice win over Kilmacud Crokes. This match had a typical end of league feel about it as neither team were in need of the points and both had an eye on more significant upcoming championship contests. While lacking in intensity, the hurling was entertaining nonetheless and Lucan had the edge throughout, picking off some impressive scores. They had a two point advantage at half time helped by a well taken Charlie Keher goal. A strong third quarter stretched the lead and Ben Coffey's goal gave them a decisive advantage which they didn't relinquish.

U11/12 Hurling

The Annaghdown (Co. Galway) U11 and U12 squads called into the Twelfth Lock on Saturday on their way to the hurling semi final in Croke Park. We had 4 games very competitive games of hurling in perfect conditions with all the skills of the game on display. We all went upstairs for pizzas, sandwiches, cake and other goodies. All the boys, mentors and supporters had a memorable day and we look forward to playing Annaghdown in the future. Thanks to our parents who generously gave up time to ensure the day was a success.

Lotto
