Team News

Daire Newcombe is doing a great job for Dublin receiving player of the match against Louth last week-end he is also named in the GAA team of the week. Continuing the story Abby Sheils kept a clean sheet for Dublin ladies in their win over Waterford on Sunday and in the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Massimo Pappalardo and Killian Costello assisted the Dubs past Offaly in a high scoring game of hurling.

We would like to thank our club members and intercounty stars for giving up their Saturday morning all lined out with Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic who we are delighted to have on board as a Main Sponsor.

We are delighted for the support of our main event sponsor, Whiteform Limited.

Hurling

Mixed fortunes for our adult hurlers in the adult leagues this weekend with three wins from five. The Seniors and Intermediates had good wins over Craobh Chiarain and St Marks respectively. The Junior As lost away to Kilmacud Crokes, the Junior Bs had a big win over Civil Service while the Junior Cs lost to Ranelagh Gaels.

Go Ahead AHL1, 26th March 2023, Croabh Chiarain 1-14 Lucan Sarsfields 2-12

Lucan senior hurlers travelled to Clonshaugh early on Sunday morning for this third round league fixture against Craobh Chiaráin. The morning started cold and dry but rain soon arrived to make for very difficult conditions for hurling. Lucan started well and got the first couple of scores but the home side quickly got going and the sides were well matched in a keenly contested first half. Craobh led 0-7 to 0-6 at half time, with most of the scores for both teams coming from placed balls. Lucan started to get some degree of ascendency early in the second half and a better service to the inside forward line paid dividends with some good scores. However Craobh stayed in touch and were never more than couple of points behind. A well taken goal by Charlie Keher inside the last 10 minutes looked to be decisive but Craobh replied to narrow the gap again. A second Lucan goal from Liam Garrigan in injury time put Lucan 5 ahead and looked to have sealed the deal, but again Craobh replied with a goal and a point in an extended injury time period but Lucan held on to win by a point. Lucan started with a relatively young team and lost both midfielders, Jack Behan and Donal Flannery, to injury to leave resources somewhat depleted. But they fought hard in difficult conditions to just edge a Craobh team that demonstrated typical doggedness and commitment to the cause.

Lucan Team/scorers: S McClelland, M McCaffrey, P Rigney, E O'Connor, L Walsh, J McCaffrey, C Walsh, J Behan, D Flannery, E Dowling, K Fitzgerald, R Stapleton (0-1 sl), S Harkness (0-9, 0-7f), C McHugh (0-1), C Keher (1-1). Subs introduced: L Garrigan (1-0), M Coogan.

Juvenile/Coiste na nÓg

U16A Camogie

Our first league game and first experience of the Senior pitch under lights, saw Lucan compete with Naomh Olafs on Friday night. Wild conditions left Lucan taking advantage of a favourable wind to lead for much of this game. Olafs put up a strong performance and managed a couple of goals before half time to make it an interesting second half. Lucan drove on against the wind in the second half with some strong interplay utilising the large pitch to their advantage. Accurate passing and control saw Lucan return to dominance in the second half with some well taken goals. Final score 3-12 to 3-2.

We also like to thank club star Emer Keenan who presented our league medals from last year’s league win in the clubhouse after the game.

U12 Camogie

The U12 girls had their first official camogie match on Saturday. Three U12 teams travelled to Tymon Park to play St. Judes. All teams put in a great effort and definitely impressed the mentors and parents with their skills. At the end of the match the girls were able to tell the mentors what they felt worked well and what they want to work on next week at training. We even had some girls play their first ever camogie match for Lucan Sarsfields. We are delighted to have new girls join our group and we hope they stay with us for many more years. The mentors and parents tried a silent side-line and it was easier for some than others but we hope to work on this over the next few weeks.

U9 Camogie Camogie v Na Fianna & St. Maur's

We were delighted to finally get to tog out for our first Go Games fixture of the year. 4 Lucan teams went out against teams from Na Fianna & St. Maur's. After a slow enough start, it wasn't long before the girls got stuck into their games, displaying great skills. There were some fabulous scores too from both the ground and from the hand. Well done to all players and especially to our new players who played for the first time today, a great start to the season!
