Football

A Good start to the league campaign for our Senior Football team, Lucan Sarsfields 1-16 vs 3-8 Ballinteer St Johns, great to see Daire Newcombe named in the GAAs Football team of the week after a great performance for the dubs at the week-end.

AFL6, 12th Lock, Lucan 0-13 (0-4) v 0-9 (0-7) K Crokes

This was a tough day for management. 3 lads had to cry off due to work. Search & rescue are still after Cathal in and around Adamstown. Aaron’s hammer was pinged by sniper in warm up. Same sniper took out Farro in first quarter, then Tony and after the turn Sharks!! Fortunately, the brave souls who managed to avoid rifle fire, all performed heroically. Not to mention the bench that stepped in. Both sides had the look of untried outfits. Lots of mishandling. Passes going astray. Wrong options. Bad wides and short to keeper. First quarter saw 3 frees scored, with Lucan having the edge. Callum scored a fine point from play, and Lucan looked to have settled. That didn’t last long. A good Crokes break ended with an excellent point, and 2 more quickly followed as they pressed up on Dean’s kick outs. 0-4 v 0-2, had in 3 quick minutes become 0-4 v 0-5. There was a strong breeze and Lucan would have been happy to finish the half trailing by the minimum. Instead Crokes collected 2 further points. A 3 point deficit didn’t look that big a hill, considering the wind, but it had the feel of a game that would not break any scoring records; and neither side really gave much indication that an umpire would need to look for a green flag, so a good start to 2nd period was crucial. Adam, on his debut, hadn’t managed to get onto much 1st half ball, but he started things rolling after the break, with a sweetly struck point. Over the following 7 mins, Lucan added 6 further points. 3 down to 4 up, was the start that was needed and the winning of the game. There were some super performances. The young, James, and the marginally less young, Tim, were massive around the middle. Always available for transitioning ball. Brossie did very well and was as close as we came to a goal. A little bit too close and personal with their full back, I would have thought. Not quite as mobile, but Peter had an authoritative game on the 40, whereas Louis was exceptionally mobile! As was Conor. Repeatedly out in front to win ball. The final quarter was a bit of an arm wrestle. Lucan trying to defend their 4 point advantage. Crokes probably over carried into the wind in search of a goal. A bloody nosed Colm typified the determination not to let this slip. Lots of subs added to a messy quarter. Reece, a returning Cian (at last), Paddy & Conor all did their bit. 4 final quarter points were equally shared to get season up and running. But final mention(s) goes to Davy. Oh what a final point of the day! Right footed from a long way out on the right. Should never have even been trying for such a score. It sailed home! And with a tally of 0-8 I guess we better mention Jordan? Interviewed after matches, the Banisteoir always talks about “work ons”. We got a great win, but lots of room for improvement. Membership

Membership for 2023 is now open

Our number 1 priority is player welfare and we’d like to remind parents and adult players that players need to be registered and paid members of the club in order to be covered by insurance. This includes training and challenge matches as well as official club games. Any unregistered players that train or play matches are doing so at their own risk and accepting that they will cover any medical costs that may result from injuries.

Just a couple of points when doing membership this year:

  • As per club rules, all managers/mentors/coaches must be full members. Juvenile membership only includes Social membership which is not suitable for this role. All Family membership options include full adult memberships
  • If you have moved address since your last registration, or changed email can you please ensure that the correct details are entered on this year’s application.
  • There is an option to pay membership over 6 months via debit/credit card and this can be selected at the end of the process
  • If you are unsure which option to select or what option are best value for money you can drop a mail to lucan.sarsfields.registrar@gmail.com

Finally, if anyone has any issues or challenges with membership you can contact me in 100% confidence at lucan.sarsfields.registrar@gmail.com and we will work together to sort something out

with thanks
