Lucan Sarsfields Club Notes Monday 4th April 2016
April 03, 2016
A huge congratulations to Dublinâs U14 Ladies Football Division 1 Feile Winners and to the Division 6 semi-finalists. Both Lucan teams doing themselves proud this weekend.
The Ladies Football Feile success this weekend is rooted in the nursery of some eight years ago. Work of JJ, Billy, Betsy, and Glen. This has proven that the nursery (now Lucan District Credit Union Academy) is the single most important facet of the club.
The U14 second team with mentors Philip Murphy, assisted by Peter Dunne, were in Clontarf for their pool games and performed exceptionally well, eventually falling at the semi final stage. Earlier they has wins over both Vincents and Clontarf, the two eventual finalists in their division. The first team were in Silverpark, where the weather meant the day was characterised by cars stuck in mud - Glen Maguire can testify to that. On the field Lucan were tentative, doing enough to make the semi final. That semi final was against the hosts Kilmacud, who may have thought they had a chance with first half two points to Lucanâs solitary goal. Second half was a different story, with a minute to go Lucan had 5:06 on the board with Kilmacud still on two points, the hosts did get a goal in the end but if Lucanâs second half performance could be bottled it would be a valuable commodity.
Sundayâs final was in St Brigids all weather pitch against Na Fianna. Surging runs from Roisin Egan and really strong play from Abby Shiels saw Lucan go in up 2:02 to 0:01. Strong defences saw the second half saw scoring confined to just four points. Full time Lucan 2:03 to Na Fianna 0:04. Scorers were Abby Shiels 2:01, Alannah Cassells 0:01, Roisin Egan 0:01. The exceptional standard of play was a real credit to Lucan's mentors, JJ Hegarty, Billy Egan, Glen Maguire, and Aidan Coffey.
Senior Football were up against Na Fianna on Saturday last in their latest AFL Division 1 fixture. Unfortunately they ended up the wrong side of a two point margin. Their next game is away to St Brigids on 16/4 at 6pm. The Jnr A team suffered their first league loss in some 18 games (only cause Noel Simpson was injured!), but the Jnr B team drew with Thomas Davis.
The Senior Hurlers journey in the Leinster League came to an end. Their next Dublin Division 1 League game is on 9/4 6pm away to Cuala.
Senior Camogie continue on theirLeinster League journey with a 5-5 to 2-9 win over Kilrush of Wexford.
CCC2 was a hurling weekend with success for U13A, U14AB, U15A and U16AB.
