Adult Camogie - third week of league matches  15th April 2014

Lucan fielded three senior camogie teams on Tuesday 15th April.

Senior One

Raheny 0-7 Lucan 5-5

On a balmy evening in St Anne's Park before a fine crowd, a young Lucan side always looked in control against a very game Raheny.

A bright Lucan started full of running with the impressive Sarah Courtney, Niamh Byrne and Laura Murtagh winning lots of possession. Sinead O’Toole was very solid at full back

Excellent early goals from Ailbhe Ryan and Laura Murtagh set the trend and long range points from play by Ali Twomey, Orla Beagan, Annemarie Courtney and two from midfielder Sarah Courtney were an accurate reflection of proceedings at that stage. Raheny then tapped over three pointed frees to reduce the deficit at the break to 2-5 to 0-3.

Matters were very evenly contested in the third quarter before Lucan essentially ended the contest with a well worked team goal finished to the net by Ali Twomey after good work by Niamh Byrne and Orla Beagan.

Further goals by Ali Twomey again and Ciara Casey kept the scoreboard ticking over while the Lucan defence limited the Raheny girls to four more points towards the end.

In the second half,  Ali Twomey and Claire Rigney starred while Ciara Casey scored her goal with great aplomb.

Amber O’Connor continues to improve and impress in her midfield dynamo role. Great engine.

Corner backs Ailise Dowling and Siobhan Grimes never looked like conceding a goal and the defence as a unit, marshalled by captain Mairi Moynihan at centre back only conceded two points from play. Keeper Joelenne Hoary gave an excellent performance and was soundness personified under the high ball. Her long puck outs and clearances were also a feature.

While Rachael Kenny played very well in the Lucan forwards it was, in truth, a memorable night for the Lucan defence.

Impossible to pick a Star Of The Show with so many wonderfully skilful and athletic performances throughout the field.

Scorers : Ali Twomey 2-1, Laura Murtagh 1-0, Ailbhe Ryan 1-0, Sarah Courtney 0-2,  Annemarie Courtney 0-1, Orla Beagan 0-1.

Lucan : Joelenne Hoary, Ailise Dowling, Sinead O'Toole, Siobhan Grimes, Niamh Byrne, Mairi Moynihan, Claire Rigney, Sarah Courtney, Amber O'Connor, Ali Twomey, Anmnemarie Courtney, Rachael Kenny, Laura Murtagh, Orla Beagan, Ailbhe Ryan, Ciara Casey.

Meanwhile, Dave Keenan's severely depleted squad suffered their first defeat in senior camogie Division 2 to Skerries by 0-7 to 5-6. Lucan were without their entire full-back line of Deirdre O'Toole, Sinead Ní Lanagain and Louise Beirne. Indeed Roisin Hayden answered the last-minute call to arms and deputised superbly at full-back for Lucan. The absence also of Orla Moloney, Laura O'Mahony and Niamh Berry meant that the task in hand was simply too great on the night. That said, Lucan were well in the game at half-time trailing by 1-3 to 0-3 but Skerries pulled away after the break to win well.

Congratulations to Senior Two debutants Aoife Reynolds and Sinead O’Keeffe.

Division 2 Team : Jenny Ryan, Sinead O’Keeffe, Roisin Hayden, Aoife Reynolds; Amy Gorman, Noelle O’Riordan, Rachel Leonard;  Michelle Kelly, Emer Moloney; Ailish O'Grady, Ellen Downes, Emer Keenan, Sarah Boland, Laura Morrissey, Charlotte Rooney, Laura O’Mahony.

Robbie Breen's Senior Division 6 squad lost out to a good Setanta side by 2-9 to 1-3 in Poppintree..  Lucan were great in the first half and the match was well fought by both sides at that stage. Indeed, the Lucan girls were very unfortunate to miss two good goal chances before the break which would have changed the complexion of the game entirely.

Bill Ryan's senior camogie Division 5 squad play their third match tonight Thursday 17th April. Best of luck girls.
