U8-U12 Football Round Up 12th April

April 14, 2014

U8 Footballers vs Balinteer St Johns

Our U8 footballers battled hard against a strong Ballinteer outfit on a cold blustery April morning.  Although the thoughts of many appeared to be on next weeks Easter Eggs both teams displayed great skill and an ability to score points at will.  The Wednesday evening training sessions are beginning to show fruit for the latest crop of Lucan Sarsfield football stars, with the hand pass particularly to the fore in many of the games.  The young academy graduates but in a huge effort and never gave up.  In the true spirit of Go Games every one got a go and the all left the pitch hungry for more (breakfast) !

Next up was our U9 footballers.

Our Under 9 footballers continued their recent fine form with 2 wins out of 3 at a windy AWP at 12th Lock on Saturday last against Cuala.

In the A game, Lucan trailed for most of the match but a flurry of late points saw them over the line by 5 points in the end.

The B team won well putting up a very high score along the way. Our C team lost narrowly after leading by a point at half time.

Our two away teams had an early start on Saturday morning and travelled away to Crumlin with both teams coming away convincing winners by keeping the  opposition teams scoreless in both matches. Well done lads.

Our all-stars this week are Dylan Hynes, Sean Carolan, Ryan Dunne and Calum Conway.

Our U11 footballers also faced Cuala opposition

Lucan Sarsfields U-11 Football   vs Cuala    Sat 12/4/14

Team: Brendan Harkin, Hugh Cuffe, Jamie Lavin, Morgan, Rian Carey, Connor Hannon, Louis Butler, Darragh Burke, Stephen Ramsey, Matthew Coogan.

This game was played out in Shankhill in reasonable conditions although Lucans numbers were depleted by injuries. Both teams started well although it was Cula who took an early lead taking advantage of a strong breeze at their backs. Lucan stayed in touch and in the second half rallied strongly to get back within a point of their opponents. Carey, Lavin Ramsey and Harkin marshalled the back line well while Coogan and Cuffe teamed upl in mid field joined by Morgan whose pace up front was a real help for Sarsfields. Seasoned campaigners Hannon, Burke and Butler all did well up front sticking to their task. In the end it was Cula who took the spoils with a single score deciding the outcome. Lucan 6-6 to Cula 6-7. A great game!!
Well done to all involved and get well soon to Brendan Kavanagh and Danny McCarthy.

Finally our U12 were in action against Raheny and Crumlin
15 March 2014 : U12 F - Lucan Sarsfields A vs Raheny, St Anne’s Park
In a finish reminiscent of Manchester United vs Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final Lucan Sarsfields U12s lost a match they had already won after Raheny scored two goals in a mysterious 2 minutes of extra time to end up winning by a point. Lucan had all the possession, especially in the second half and were comfortably ahead by 5 points at the end of official time but ended up losing by a single point to Raheny who stole the match with the two extra time goals. Raheny had looked threatening on the break throughout and were kept at bay earlier in the second half by a brilliant Mark Gormely save. This game was all about goals and Lucan themselves had a goal disallowed in the first half with the referee calling back play having already blown for an earlier infringement, awarding instead a free to Lucan
This was the first League outing for the U12s after a very successful grading campaign which makes this defeat a very bitter pill to swallow considering they were so close to bagging the 2 points.
However we must take a lot of positives from this display. The team was under strength by two key players and they still managed to dominate possession throughout. They put up some great team scores, passing the ball well and finishing some good passing moves. Oisn Twamley in particular put in a great performance in the half forward line, winning some good ball and setting up and taking some great scores. Oisin also scored the point of the match. But at the end of the day, for all Lucan’s possession they just didn’t put enough scores up on the board and this match will be remembered as two League points lost.
Sport was a cruel master today.

Final score Lucan 2-9 : Raheny  4-4

Team : Ben O'Toole, Cian Duffy, Cian Hyland, Colm Walsh, Daragh Henderson, Derek Cahill, Eoin Power, Evin Dowling, Mark Gormley, Oisin Ryan, Oisin Twamley, Paul Tuite, Sean Casey

Scorers Colm Walsh (0-2), Oisin Ryan (1-3), Evin Dowling (0-1), Oisin Twamley (0-2), Paul Tuite (1-0), Sean Casey (0-1)
