Team News

 Hurling

Dublin had a fine result 3-26 vs 2-22 against Antrim in the first round of the Walsh Cup. Great to see representation of Lucan in the panel this week, well done John Bellew, Ciarán Dowling, Chris O’Leary and Paul Crummey.

LGFA U18 and U16 Aussie Rules

This week Lucan hosted Wanderers a group of ladies footballers from a selection of Australian football clubs. A warm welcome was arranged by the Lucan hosts. The matches took place on Saturday in Abbottstown with 3 intervals of Gaelic football, Australian football and a final round of compromise rules that concluded under lights. The teams then returned to the clubhouse for some presentations, food and refreshments. It was great to see both sides having to make adjustments to their skills for each segment, catching, hand passing and kicking was adopted with ease by this talented group of ladies. Lucan Players of the Match were Zara Casey Lancaster (U16) and Niamh Roche (U18). Lucan Captains Rachel Johnson (U16) and Teagan Kelleher (U18) presented a signed match ball to their counterparts.

Healthy Clubs - Ireland Lights Up

Reminder that Lucan Sarsfield’s will be participating in "Ireland Lights Up" - the country's biggest community walking initiative. The initiative encourages GAA clubs to bring communities together to walk and talk in a safe environment during the dark winter evenings. We will be meeting at the 12th Lock Clubhouse at 7pm on Wednesday nights from 11th January for 6 weeks. We will walk from our clubhouse to Adamstown and back for 1 hour in total.

Irish Life Healthy Clubs Every Step Counts challenge is open for entry.

Our club can be in with a chance to win vouchers for new kit from O’Neill’s, please download the MyLife app in the App Store or Google Play and search MyLife by Irish Life.

Kili 3 Charity night

Three club members Stephen Murphy, Tommy Somers and Andrew Duff are climbing Kilimanjaro in late January. They have covered the full cost of the trip themselves, but are fundraising for two great charities as part of this - DSI - Down Syndrome Ireland and the Make a Wish foundation Ireland. We wish the  a sucessfull and safe trip. More details and link for donations here

Membership

Membership for 2023 is now open

Our number 1 priority is player welfare and we’d like to remind parents and adult players that players need to be registered and paid members of the club in order to be covered by insurance. This includes training and challenge matches as well as official club games. Any unregistered players that train or play matches are doing so at their own risk and accepting that they will cover any medical costs that may result from injuries.

Just a couple of points when doing membership this year:

  • As per club rules, all managers/mentors/coaches must be full members. Juvenile membership only includes Social membership which is not suitable for this role. All Family membership options include full adult memberships
  • There is an option to purchase a ticket for GAA National Draw along with your membership (see first listed option on membership list). All proceeds go to the club and there is a chance to win a brand new Dacia Duster car and All Ireland Final packages
  • If you have moved address since your last registration, or changed email can you please ensure that the correct details are entered on this year’s application.
  • There is an option to pay membership over 6 months via debit/credit card and this can be selected at the end of the process
  • If you are unsure which option to select or what option are best value for money you can drop a mail to lucan.sarsfields.registrar@gmail.com

Finally, if anyone has any issues or challenges with membership you can contact me in 100% confidence at lucan.sarsfields.registrar@gmail.com and we will work together to sort something out

with thanks

John Cosgrove, Lucan Sarsfield’s Registrar
