Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes
November 15, 2022
Two championship matches this week for our U21 Ladies, U21C take on CBC/Portabello this Wednesday and U21A take on NaFianna in a championship semi-final at home on Sunday, more details on the Web when confirmed.
Two championship semi-finals this weekend and it was mixed fortunes. Our U21A's progressed to the final after a two point win over our northern neighbours Castleknock. They will now face our southern neighbours, Commercials, in the final on Saturday December 3rd at 2pm, with the venue still to be confirmed. However, our U19B's were beaten by a strong Clontarf side in their championship semi-final, bringing an end to a long and positive season for this group.
U21 B Hurling Championship Semi-final: Lucan Sarsfields 1-21 Castleknock 1-19. 12th Lock, 19/11/2022.
This was typical under 21 hurling, open competitive and entertaining, played in crisp early winter weather before a large crowd at the 12th Lock. Sean Harkness opened the scoring for Lucan with a long range free and Liam Garrigan followed up with a nice point from play. Castleknock soon levelled and then edged ahead. Scores from Evin Dowling and Charlie Keher had Lucan back on terms in a very evenly contested first half. Lucan did have the edge in the second quarter and further scores from Garrigan, Keher, Dowling and Joey Dunne and some accurate frees from Harkness saw Lucan lead 0-12 to 0-10 at the end of a very entertaining first half. Lucan got the first two scores of the second half from but Castleknock quickly reduced the deficit to three and then in the 37th minute they got the first goal of the game to level the scores 0-14 to 1-11. Lucan quickly responded however and two minutes later Sean Harkess finished to the net after a good move and Lucan were in the ascendancy again. Castleknock didn't buckle through and chipped away at the lead and 3 successive points brought the sides level 1-14 each at the mid-point of the half. Lucan responded again and, helped by a couple of good scores from play from Harkness and Matt Coogan, led 1-18 to 1-16 with 10 minutes to play. It was an exciting final 10 minutes but further scores from Harkness, Hugh Cuffe and Evin Dowling (free) saw Lucan over the line on a scoreline of 1-21 to 1-19.
The lead was stretched to 11 points after 5 minutes of the second half but then Crokes had a period of dominance and got 4 points in succession to reduce the deficit to just 7 with 15 minutes to play. However, Lucan responded superbly and took control again with six successive points, including some inspiring scores from Hugh Cuffe, to put the game beyond Crokes reach. Crokes, to their credit, never gave up and they did get a late consolation goal but Lucan got the final two scores to win out on a recorded score-line of 3-20 to 1-13.
This was a fantastic performance from a very well drilled Lucan team. They played a lovely brand of hurling, matching aggression and intensity with some great inter-play, moving the ball around, finding a man in space and creating scores. Michael Cunningham and Shane Coffey were outstanding in the full back line, while upfront Sean Harkness and Hugh Cuffe were immense, and Joey Dunne took his goals superbly. Midfielder Jack Behan gave a man of the match display, bringing constant aggression and work-rate, providing a great platform for his forwards and taking two nice points. However, teamwork was the hallmark of this performance and every player involved can be proud of their contribution. After the game, team captain Sean Harkness accepted the Cup before the very enthusiastic Lucan supporters and the celebrations began!

All we're asking you to do is notify them (only Sarsfields/Dublin gear, no general clothing), ask them drop them into the café and Jackie will sell them with the money going to the Feile teams.
