Camogie

Last week-end Lucan ended their Minor Camogie season by competing in Division 1 and Division 5 Minor championship finals in Abbotstown.

Minor Bs were first up on Friday, facing Commercials in a rematch of an earlier group game on the main pitch in Abbotstown.

Playing surface was perfect for camogie but the weather the exact opposite with the girls playing the game in torrential rain under lights on Friday evening.

Lucan got the first score of the night and kept their noses in front at the end in a tough battle but the girls never gave up in what was a great performance on the night.

Final score was Lucan 3:07 – 2:06 Commercials

Aoife Murtagh received the cup from Karl O’Brien after Orla Morrissey was crowned player of the game.

Our Minor A were next up on Sunday and had an equally tough game against Ballyboden.

Lucan fought back from a ten point deficit to draw level in injury time with a goal, only for Ballyboden to get another goal themselves a few seconds later to win by 3 points.

Final score Ballyboden 3:12 - Lucan 1-15

Both teams fought hard battles in their respective games and regardless of the result in each final this was a tremendous achievement by all the ladies in both squads throughout the league and championship in 2022.

Thanks to the mentors and everyone else that helped out during the year and looking forward to upcoming U21 championship.

Next week the Camogie story continues with a U15 Division 1 Final Saturday at 15:00, Iveagh Grounds, against Ballyboden St Endas. Our U14 meet Ballyboden again on Sunday at 13:00 in the Iveagh Grounds for the Division 1 final. In the U14 Div 5 final Lucan Sarsfields take on Naomh Fionnbarra at home at 15:00. Finally Na Fianna host Lucan in the Division 8 Shield Final at 13:30. Best of luck ladies.

Adult Hurling

Disappointment for our Junior A hurlers who lost out to a very good Commercials team in the Junior A championship final this weekend. Next Sunday is another big day with our U17A’s in minor championship final v Kilmacud Crokes (1.30pm in O’Toole Park) and U19A and U17B in championship semi-finals. All support is welcome.

Junior A Championship Final, Commercials 3-21 Lucan Sarsfields 1-11, O’Toole Park, 23/10/2022

Heavy rain overnight and early morning left a very soggy pitch and difficult hurling conditions at O’Toole Park. Despite the conditions Commercials were much faster out of the blocks and picked off some good early scores to build up a lead they never relinquished. After 15 minutes it was 1-6 to 0-2, with Lucan’s scores in that period coming from Rory Stapleton and a Sean Harkness 65. Commercials got through for a second goal after 20 minutes but this was counteracted by a fine goal from Ben Coffey at the other end. Commercials picked off a few more points to extend the lead. The half time score was 2-11 to 1-3 and there was really no way back for Lucan at that stage. They started the second half with a couple of early scores but Commercials soon regained ascendancy and stretched the lead again. Lucan fought gamely to the end but were second best in all parts of the field on the day.

Still a year of significant progress for this team, winning the league, progressing to Division 4 and, most significantly, promotion to Intermediate for next year.
