Hurling Championship Update

Hurling Championship commenced for the U19s and U17s with some mixed fortunes. Our seniors arranged a challenge match against Na Fianna to keep their preparations on track.

U19A Hurling Championship, Na Fianna vs. Lucan, Mobhi Road 18/09/22

The U19s have been working hard in training and also supporting the club by assisting with the adult teams throughout the summer, which was an enjoyable experience for all the lads and will benefit them in the long term. This meant that the first game back would be straight into championship against a well-practiced Na Fianna. Lucan started well commanding the opening exchanges with some strong fielding and interplay. This was countered by the introduction of a sweeper system by Na Fianna who gathered momentum and Lucan required a couple of fine saves from Canavan keep the score line to within a couple of points, 0-14 vs 0-12 to Na Fianna. Lucan started the second half with some tweaks to the setup, this new structure made it much more difficult for Na Fianna to pressure our defence although they never relinquished the lead, even with some fine interplay to open for goal chances one resulting in free from close range that was deflected right at the end to secure the win for Na Fianna. Final Score 0-25 to 0-22.

U17A Hurling Championship Lucan vs. Cuala, 12th Lock 18/09/22

Confidence is high in this team resulting in some fine interchanges, accurate passing and movement which from the offset made it a very difficult encounter for the Cuala visitors. For most of the game Lucan commanded the middle third of the pitch, although the pressure from this did not tell until the second half when our forwards did some real damage with a couple of goals moving the game out of sight and allowing Lucan mentors to introduce some substitutes who also slotted into this well-oiled machine. Its clear that this team is not only well drilled in the basics but they also support and work for each other. A strong Lucan support enjoyed a smashing game of hurling. Final score 7-15 to 1-13.
