Maximum league points for our adult hurlers again this weekend with three wins and a walkover.

AHL 1 Lucan Sarsfields 3-20 Naomh Barrog 4-11 12th Lock, 11/6/22.

Lucan seniors continued their quest for a place in the league final with this high scoring win over Naomh Barrog. Lucan were dominant throughout and will wonder why they were defending only a 4 point lead into the final minutes. Having looked to be out of sight after the third quarter, the concession of some sloppy goals in the final quarter brought the visitors within striking distance again. Lucan did get the final couple of points to win by 6 in the end. Barrog had started reasonably well and matched Lucan in the early exchanges until a Charlie Keher goal after 12 minutes gave Lucan the lead. Charlie finished well from a rebound after a great run from Evin Dowling. Charlie struck again shortly before half time, cutting through and expertly finishing low to the net. This gave Lucan a 2-8 to 1-6 lead at half time. After the break, Lucan upped the intensity and pressed the Barrog defenders at every opportunity, capitalising regularly on the resultant turnovers. A third goal from Charlie in the 35th minute and a succession of points helped Lucan build up a commanding position and the game looked over. However, Lucan did not sustain the effort and allowed Barrog back into the match through the concession of three relatively soft goals and the final minutes were a little more tense than they should have been. But Lucan were certainly deserving winners over the hour. Paul Claffey in defence, John Bellew in midfield, and Chris O’Leary and the 3 goal scorer Charle Keher in the forwards were most prominent on the night for Lucan.

Lucan Team/scorers: S McClelland, E Seery, P Rigney, P Claffey, M McCaffrey (0-1), J McCaffrey, P Smith, J Bellew (0-5), C McHugh, K Fitzgerald (0-1), C O’Leary (0-8, 0-6f), D Flannery, E Dowling, C Dowling (0-3), C Keher (3-2). Subs introduced: C Keenan, S Harkness.

AHL 5 Lucan Sarsfields 1-16 Faughs 0-9 2th lock, 12/6/22

Lucan Junior A’s maintained their top of the table position after a comfortable win over Faughs. The visitors arrived with just 14 players so Lucan had to play with 14 also. Lucan were the better team from the start but it took time to exert dominance on the scoreboard as they racked up a lot of wides with some wasteful finishing and shooting from nearly impossible positions in a tricky cross field wind. Niall Stagg was winning good possession at full forward and they eventually set up some good scores to help Lucan to a 0-10 to 0-5 lead at half-time. The pattern continued in the second half with Lucan retaining the upper hand but not converting all their scoring opportunities. However, they converted enough to stay comfortably ahead and when a long range free from Sean Harkness found the net after 53 minutes the game was effectively over. Rob Twomey was very effective in a dominant full back line, Luke Murphy was very solid as usual in the half back line, while Oisin O’Brien and Liam Garrigan were lively in the forwards.

Lucan Team/Scorers: C Murray, T Beahan, R Twomey, A Sheehan, G Millea (0-1), E O’Connor, L Murphy, D Kavanagh (0-2), J McCarthy, O O’Brien (0-3), E Allen (0-3f), I Crowley, N Stagg (0-1), L Garrigan (0-3). Subs introduced S Harkess (1-2f), P Ward (0-1), K Masterson, D Reynolds.

Juvenile Section / Coiste na nÓg

Congratulations to all the Lucan schools who competed in the Cumann na mBunscol Áth Cliath, it was great to see this competition back after Covid and great to see two Lucan Schools compete in the final with St. Marys BNS and GNS reaching the finals in Croker. The BNS won the Corn Herald a lovely side line cut can be viewed on our socials.

U8 Hurling

Our senior hurlers overcame Naomh Barrog on Saturday but had to share top-billing with the U8 hurlers, our stars of the future!

Led by Ollie Skehan and a cohort of co-mentors, the U8s put on an exhibition at the interval to entertain the crowd. Our hurling prospects look bright and we’re looking forward to see these boys leading the charge for Lucan in the future.

U11 Hurling

Our U11s have been in action in the community games these last couple of weeks. The eventually finished 4th, well done lads.
