Team News

AHL1 Cuala 2-25 Lucan Sarsfields 2-22

On a nice morning in Shanganagh Park , the Seniors started with a bang through an early goal from Ciaran Dowling , which was followed by point direct from a line ball from Chris O'Leary. The first half ebbed and flowed after that with both sides having periods of dominance, ending level 0-13 to 1-10. The only downside to the half was the lose of Ciaran Dowling to injury just before the break.

Cuala had the better start to the second half , stretching their lead to 8 points at one stage through two goals in quick succession. The Lucan lads fought back after these majors and eventually closed the gap to 4 points before the final whistle with a converted penalty from Chris O'Leary.

St Finians Swords vs Lucan Jun C 13/5/2022

Lucan travelled to Swords to play St Finians on Friday evening last. This was a low-scoring encounter with both sides wasting early opportunities leaving the score tied at just two points each after twelve minutes. Within the next few minutes Paul Keegan added 1-1 to advance our cause. In the second quarter, Finians improved to go 1-5 to 1-4 ahead with a late Cian Ryan point tying up the teams at the interval. On the resumption, we took control again with Keegan again prominent by scoring two points and doing most of the work for our second goal which was converted by Charlie Caseley. Midway through the second half, Finians came again and scored 1-2 without reply to close the gap to a point. We did not take advantage of many placed ball opportunities across the evening but Keegan stepped up to put over a late free to put two between the teams which was enough to secure the league points. Best for Lucan in defense was Tiernan Swords with Keegan showing his experience and determination to come out as the top scorer out of the eight different scorers on the night. Final score: St Finians 2-8 to Lucan 2-10.

Lucan Jun C vs Wild Geese 28/4/2022

Wild Geese travelled to AGP3 on a Thursday evening but seemed to suffer from the effects of the cross-county drive as Lucan had 2-6 on the board vs three wides for the visitors after just twelve minutes! Ciaran O'Brien - put through by a Liam O'Connor quick free - and Cian Ryan scored the Lucan goals. The Geese then got into the game and scored 1-2 over the next five minutes. The remainder of the half was even enough with Lucan adding five points to three for the visitors which left us comfortable ahead on 2-11 to 1-5 at the break. The Geese introduced some suspiciously strong subs for the second half - all called Bugsy seemingly - and scored 2-1 to 1-1 for Lucan to close the gap. O'Brien and O'Connor again combined for this our third goal. On 40 minutes, we were reduced to 14 following a second yellow for Paddy Kennedy which rallied the opposition further. In this phase, they out-scored us 1-4 to 0-1 with less than ten minutes remaining on the clock. The Geese were wasteful and took some poor decisions when they had the numerical advantage and went for goals when easy points were on offer. Our scramble defense was also quite good. The end phase was tense with the visitors unable to level the game. Two points each completed the scoring and we did just enough to come through narrowly. Final score: Lucan 3-15 to Wild Geese 4-11.

Team and scorers: R Hazley; D Hassey, P Keegan, A Flanagan; T Swords, P Kennedy, D Murphy; L Farrell, L O'Connor (0-4f); C Ryan (1-2), F Breen (0-2), R Hearne (0-2); C O'Brien (2-2: 0-1f), J Cavanagh (0-1), E Power (0-2); E Hollowed, C Chambers, S Egan.
