Ladies Football, Under 16 Shield Semi-Final, Division 7

In one of the most dramatic matches in their entire career, the U16Bs snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at the eleventh hour, or more accurately, in the first extra time they had ever experienced, in their semi-final against Balinteer St Johns U16B. After a nerve-racking, nail-biting 60 minutes of game time, with the opposition scoring a goal that put them 2 points ahead with barely five minutes on the clock, which was equalised in the last minute, the teams went into extra time.

Our players seemed to have got their second, or indeed fifth, breath by then, and in the space of the additional 20 minutes managed to score another six points while only conceding three, which put the final score at Lucan 2-12 to Balinteer’s 3-6. Na Sáirséalaigh Abú!

U14 Hurling Cup Division 7

AGP0 09/10/2021

Lucan Sarsfields B (2-6), St Vincents B (2-2)

Lucan played a top of the table clash against St Vincents in an all important decider to determine who would go through to the cup final. Having previously contested in a tightly fought challenge match both teams knew there would be nothing between the sides. With the stakes so high and playing into the wind it was understandable that Lucan had what appeared a nervous start. St. Vincents capitalised on the wind in the early stages and dropped numerous high balls in to threaten the Lucan defence. This tactic soon paid dividends and St. Vincents snatched an early goal. A well worked ball out of the Lucan defence a few minutes later resulted in a great point from JP O’Connor to settle the nerves somewhat. A confident St. Vincents continued to press and in the second quarter added another goal and a point. A point by Ronan O’Flaherty from a very tight angle just before the end of the half, kept Lucan’s scoreboard ticking over.

The second half started brightly for Lucan with a barrage of attacks on the St. Vincents defence. A converted 65 from Adam McMahon lifted spirits and minutes later a determined effort from Cathal Dowling found the back of the net. Two further points by JP O’Connor and Ronan O’Flaherty from Lucan pushed the team into a one-point lead before the end of the 3rd quarter. The momentum looked to be in Lucan’s favour, but St. Vincents put in a determined effort to equalise with less than 10 minutes to go. Lucan responded almost immediately with a great solo run from Killian O’Connor from the middle of the pitch to put over a fine point and edge Lucan ahead once again. The killer blow came in the final minutes when a crossed ball into the square was finished to the net by Lucan’s Cian O’Gara.

Team & Scorers: Michael Casey, Eoghan Clarke, Angad Dhaliwal, Cian O'Neill, Luke Kehoe, Olan Sullivan, Luis Healy, Adam McMahon (0-1), Cathal Dowling (1-0), Cian O'Gara (1-0), John P O'Connor (0-2), Ronan O'Flaherty (0-2), Killian O'Connor (0-1), Robert Melvin, Lee Carroll, Charlie O'Brien, Ciaran Moloney
