Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes

June 10, 2021

Congratulations to our adult Camogie teams who got off to a great start to the leagues on Tuesday and Thursday evening with four out of five wins. Ladies football didn’t get the same reward on Wednesday. This weekend sees the leagues for adult and juvenile start in earnest, this weeks fixtures are on the home page and recent results and match reports are below.

The u10 girls (pictured above) have been busy the last few months. Many of the girls have taken part in a scavenger hunt with their football or sliotar in tow, others have been busy telling us about their favourite sports person through the medium of art, and more have been practicing their camogie skills with the help of videos from the senior girls. The girls received certificates, medals and sliotars for all their hard work.

Lucan Sarsfields v St Judes, Tymon Park 8th June, Senior Camogie

The very first game of the year for our Senior Camogie squad and away to Judes on their new pitch, on a beautiful Summer's evening was the perfect place to start.

Before announcing the first team of the year, Amy Gorman and Emma Flanagan were announced as joint captains, honors truly deserved!  The game started at a frantic pace, no quarter given, with the backs on both sides winning most of the battles. However, It was clear from early on that Lucan were up for the battle and never took a step back in the tackle or in possession. An even contest at the water break with the score at 1-2 each. Lucan grew into the game, creating chance after chance but the Judes defence stood tall, leaving the sides level at 1-4 each at the break.

Lucan continued to put their stamp on the game, and while the score board didn't reflect it, Lucan were well on top in the possession stakes. But of course possession means very little if not converted, and Lucan found themselves a point behind at the second water break. It was then the tireless work rate that lucan had brought began to show it's worth. Some quick thinking from Orla on the restart meant Amy was able to pick her out with a fine puckout that resulted in an immediate point for Lucan and they never looked back. Lucan outscored the opposition 3-5 to no score in the final quarter with a final score of 4-11 to 2-5 in lucans favour.

While Lucan played some very intelligent hurling at times,  looking for the right option, their energy and attitude is what wore down the opposition and gave Lucan a well deserved victory. Special mention to Hannah, Millie and Claire who all made their Senior debuts for the club, and none of them looking out of place!

Next game - Home to Vincent's Sunday 13th at 10.30. All support welcome

Team: Amy Gorman, Emma O Flynn, Avril Quinn, Aoife Byrne, Sinead O Toole, Orla Beagan, Rachel Leonard, Aoife Mahon, Claire Meaney, Jessie McClelland, Kate Whyte,  Aoife McKearney,  Chloe O Connor, Michelle Kelly, Jenny Ryan.
Substitutes: Dani O'Connor for Jenny, Millie Reid for Emma O Flynn, Hannah Brady for Rachel Leonard (all substitutions made on 40th minute)
