Hurling helmet safety

In advance of the 2021 GAA season, players are reminded about the need to check that their equipment is in good condition and meets the required safety standards.

The GAA would like to remind all players at all levels in all Hurling Games and Hurling Practice Sessions it is mandatory for, and the responsibility of, each individual player to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standards set out in IS:355 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI).

All players are advised that in the event of a head injury occurring, if the helmet being worn does not meet the standard or is modified or altered from the original manufactured state, they are not covered under the terms of the GAA Injury Benefit Fund.

The following helmet manufacturers currently provide products which meet the standards set out in IS:355 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI).

The Every Step Counts Challenge is a virtual challenge, this is the ideal challenge for our club, our members & the wider community to get involved with during the current level of restrictions. The challenge begins on Wednesday, 13th January.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

The Youth Mental Health First Aid (Youth MHFA) programme is designed for adults who work with, live with or care for young people aged between 12 to 18. The Youth MHFA training programme is particularly suited to parents/guardians, school staff, sports coaches, community group leaders and youth workers. Participants who undertake Youth MHFA training will learn how to assist a young person who may be experiencing a mental health problem or a mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan. 

This course is ideally suited to those who have not attended Mental Health First Aid training before. This training is fully funded by the HSE and will be delivered via Zoom by MHFA Ireland accredited instructors. Training will take place online from 9am to 4pm each day and attendance for the full duration is required. Registration is via the booking links below:

IMPORTANT Notice from Childrens Officer. 

There has been a change in the mentor vetting requirements for the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association. 

Anyone previously vetted prior to 1/1/2019 must now reapply to be re-vetted. 

This must be completed before 30 June 2021. 

This came in to force on January 1 2021. 

Vetting now has a 3 year recognition period.
