Lucan Sarsfields Healthy Club Updates

Just a reminder that Christmas is going to be tough for many of our members and our wider community.  Many people will struggle with loneliness or may just need a bit of assistance to prepare for Christmas.  Please reach out if you are struggling or know someone who may need help.

Minding Your Wellbeing

A new video-based mental wellbeing programme called Minding Your Wellbeing is now freely accessible. Brought to you by HSE Health and Wellbeing, this evidence-based programme provides a unique opportunity for people to learn more about mindfulness, gratitude, self-care and resilience. As we continue to adapt our lifestyles to deal with COVID-19 and are faced with different challenges, Minding Your Wellbeing aims to provide simple tools and guidance to develop and maintain a positive outlook by looking after our mental health and wellbeing. The programme focuses on the promotion of mental wellbeing, and has been adapted from a face-to-face programme into a series of short online videos for the public at this time. It’s free to access anytime so why not try one of the videos and go from there. Further details can be found at the following link: https://www2.hse.ie/healthy-you/minding-your-wellbeing-programme.html

The Marie Keating Foundation have kindly shared information with Lucan Healthy Club about their new campaign to mark lung cancer awareness month.

Each year in Ireland 2,795 people are diagnosed with lung cancer. It is Ireland’s fourth most common cancer and has a survival rate of just 20%. Lung cancer is Ireland’s biggest cancer killer, but only when it’s caught too late.

The Marie Keating Foundation is encouraging everyone to join the Big Check Up, to catch lung cancer out. We’re asking you to check in with loved ones when you are online, know the signs and symptoms of lung cancer and to not let it hide behind COVID-19 or Flu this winter. But why listen to us when you can watch our full campaign video and listen to broadcaster and author Maia Dunphy encouraging us all to get behind the campaign!

While we know that early detection will improve survival, recent research from the National Cancer Control Programme shows that a barrier to people seeing their GP with symptoms of lung cancer, such as a cough, is not wanting to waste the doctor’s time and that’s more than half of people wouldn’t act immediately if they noticed a symptom.

So, we have launched the world’s first cough checker phone-line to help catch lung cancer out, raise awareness of early signs & symptoms and encourage the public to call their GP if they have concerns. Call 1800 – COUGHS, that’s 1800 268 447 to get that cough checked.

For more information on the signs and symptoms of lung cancer, how you can reduce your risk and about our new campaign, make sure to follow our social media pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and please do share the campaign video and phone line with your family and friends when you are next catching up.

New Senior Football Manager

We are delighted to announce that Dave Cullen will take over as Lucan Sarsfields Senior Football manager. Dave, a former Dublin Ladies Football goalkeeping coach, managed the county minor ladies to Leinster Championship success and also Lucan Minor Footballers to win the 2019 Division 1 League. We would also like to express our gratitude to outgoing manager Barry Whelan and wish him every success for the future. We have no doubt Barry will continue to contribute to the clubs player and coach development into the future.

New Senior Camogie Manager

We are delighted to announce that Dermot English will take over as Lucan Sarsfields Senior Camogie manager. Dermot  has been involved at all levels with the club over the last number of years. We would also like to express our gratitude to outgoing manager Dave Keenan for the last four years and wish him every success for the future. Again we have no doubt Dave will continue to contribute to the clubs player and coach development into the future.
