Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes

July 10, 2020

We wish Emer Keenan and Audrey Murtagh all the very best as they step back from playing for the Senior Camogie Team. Both have served club and county well. Former Club and Dublin Captain and player of the year, Emer and Former Club captain, Audrey played together on the 2000 Junior B Camogie team before rising through to claim the League and Championship double at Senior B level in 2011, ensuring top flight camogie for the Club. Last November, Friends of Dublin Hurling, Camogie Player of the year, Ali Twomey, listed Audrey and Emer as players she most admired! We know that Audrey and Emer will continue to be staunch supporters of Lucan Camogie into the future.

As the date of our first home games draw near, please note the following from the GAA return to play guidelines and from the frequently asked questions section of the GAA COVID-19 resources page:

  • Everyone has a role to play. - Ultimately, safe return to contact sports is the PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY of each participant. Any Member who has a concern regarding personal higher risk should discuss the situation with their GP before deciding on whether to return to activity.
  • Until July 20th, the maximum number of people allowed on club grounds is 200 - This number includes, players, management and back room staff, officials and spectators - Record the names of anyone attending if possible - the reason for doing so is of course in relation to contact tracing. There is no obligation on you to do so, but all the better if it can be done as it would help Public Health authorities in the event that there was an incident or someone at the game tests positive down the line. Further guidelines are expected from the Health and Safety Committee in the next week.
  • We have been advised that An Garda Síochána may  carry out inspections during games and or training to ensure that clubs are in compliance with Covid-19 Guidelines, and as such, the club are considering suitable measures to restrict attendance until the start of phase 4 on July 20th
  • All match officials, teams, players and management, should complete a medical questionnaire or resubmit their health status ON THE DAY of the fixture, prior to the start of the fixture, and present themselves to the home team Covid-19 supervisor before entering the playing area, so that their attendance can be recorded.

The GAA has produced two videos detailing how the new kick-out, kick-out mark, and advanced mark rules will work in Gaelic Football. These videos are just one element of an education package that should ensure all referees are up to speed with the rule changes after a long period of inaction due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The link to the GAA Site and videos are available  here.
