Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes

February 20, 2020

The arrival of Storm Denis over the weekend meant that all the Adult and Juvenile GAA Club fixtures were postponed, however there was plenty of action involving Lucan Sarsfields players at county level and CCAO Third Level Camogie.

On Valentines evening, Dublin travelled to Dunganny, to take on Meath in the opening round of the Ladies Football Leinster Minor Championship. Abby Shiels and Aoife Whelan represented the club as Dublin beat the reigning Leinster champions by a point. The next round on March 15th sees Dublin at home to Kildare. Match Report

On Saturday 15th February, the Dublin Minor A Camogie squad (pictured above), managed by Lucan’s John O’Connell, and with Ali Dunne, Ellen Dunphy and Laura Sharkey all part of the squad, overcame All-Ireland Champions Cork 1-12 to 1-09. Match report

Also on Saturday, in Parnell Park, the Dublin U20 Footballers were victorious against Longford and booked a semi-final place against Meath in the Leinster Championship next weekend. Alan Murphy and Mark Lavin played their part in the 3-10 to 0-9 win. Match Report

The Dublin Senior Hurlers travelled to Carlow for round 3 of the Allianz league, Lucan was represented by Chris Crummy (0-2) on the pitch and Johnny McCaffrey in the Eir Sport commentary box.  After a poor first half, due to the very testing conditions, Dublin upped their game to run out 0-20 to 0-9 winners. Next up for the Dubs is a double-header with the footballers in Croke Park next Saturday, Dublin v Wexford (AHL) 5pm and Dublin v Donegal (AFL)  at 7pm.

Match Report

In the CCAO Third Level Camogie competitions, Friday evening saw Grace Kenny and her Marino Institute of Education team become the UPMC Uí Mhaolagáin Cup Champions 2020 defeating the holders MIC St Patricks, Thurles, 6-8 to 3-11.

In Sundays final of the Fr Meachair Cup, UCD were beaten by TCD 0-13 to 0-8 with Lucan’s Aoife Mahon on the winning side. And in the Purcell Cup Final, Chloe O’Connor and Emma O’Flynn were part of the TU Dublin side that were runners up to UCD.
