Lucan Sarsfields Club Notes Monday 22nd April
April 22, 2019
We hope you all enjoyed the wonderful Easter weekend. Lots of happenings around the club, we had a great Easter Camps even if the weather was bad at the beginning, a big thanks to Darren Gavin who made a great impression with the kids, and a big thanks to David Moran (GPO) and the Juvenile section who put in the hard yards to make it all run so smoothly. Our Ladies section had a great week with 8 wins from 8 games across the two codes. We also had few visiting teams over the Easter weekend and also our girls went travelling as our U16LF team played in the Rachael Herbert Memorial, losing in a semi-final shoot out!!. Well done to Aoibheann Stokes who took part in the Camogie Féile Skills competition and won a place in Leinster. Well done also to Joey, Jack, Liam and Rossa part of the Dublin team in Easter Hurling action. Of course the weekend started on a high with a good win for our Senior hurlers in Championship (match report below), they now face a winner takes all game in September vs Whitehall. This week sees our Senior footballers play Ballyboden in the next round of Championship on Thursday 25th April at 7:30pm in Monastery Road, Clondalkin. Support can make the difference as the lads look to secure early passage to the Qtr Finals.
On Sunday we had a lovely occasion to mark the retirement of our long time Bar Manager Liam Cuttle, Uachtaráin Kathleen Roche made the presentation and paid a glowing tribute to Liam.
Thanks to all who helped with our Club clean up on Good Friday.
Our deepest sympathies to the Gately family on the recent loss of Ann.
Volunteers Needed. - Great teams aren’t just on the fields.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help our Childrens’ officer in our club to look out for the welfare of our children and ensure that we are providing a safe and fun environment for them to learn the skills of the GAA. If you have an interest in child welfare in our club and have a balanced and strong personality we would like to hear from you. We rely on volunteers to run our club and hope you would consider helping us to help our kids enjoy our sport. You can contact me via email - email@example.com

SHC Lucan Sarsfields 4-22 Setanta 0-15
This second round senior championship game was played in perfect hurling conditions at O’Toole Park on Good Friday evening. This was a must-win game for both teams to keep their interest in the Championship alive. Lucan got off to a good start with 4 points on the board before Setanta registered their opening score. Lucan’s task was made somewhat easier when Setanta were reduced to 14 men after just 10 minutes. Lucan continued to stretch their lead with some well taken points and then Ben Coffey finished a great move to score Lucan’s opening goal and see Lucan to a comfortable lead at half time, 1-13 to 0-6. The opening period of the second half saw Setanta narrow the gap a little, but a second Lucan goal, from Chris Crummey, snuffed out the resistance and Lucan went on to an easy victory with further goals from Crummey and Ciaran Dowling sealing the deal. Setanta saw another red and were reduced to just 13 players in the closing stages but the contest was already well over at that stage. This was a good performance from Lucan, but they will face much tougher tests when the Championship resumes in the autumn. John Bellew was dominant at full back, ably assisted by Pauls Claffey and Rigney beside him, and behind a half-back line in which Seanie McClelland was the stand-out player. Ronan Smith put through a mountain of work in midfield, while upfront the Crummey brothers were outstanding, scoring 2-11 between them (2-10 from play). Ben Coffey also had a fine outing while substitutes Eoghan O’Conghaile and Ciaran Dowlng also made a positive impact. Lucan now have a short break from competitive action before the league resumes in May, and they will take a lot of positives from this first competitive win of the season.
Lucan Team/Scorers: Dan O’Neill, Paul Rigney, John Bellew, Paul Claffey, Peter Kelly, Matt McCaffrey (0-2), Seanie McClelland (0-1f), Johnny McCaffrey, Ronan Smith, Rob Ward, Chris Crummey (2-6, 0-1f), Ben Coffey (1-2), Paul Crummey (0-5), Kevin Fitzgerald (0-3), Donal Flannery (0-1, ’65). Subs introduced: Eoghan O’Conghaile, Ciaran Dowling (1-2), Anto McNulty, Cian McHugh.
U15A Division 1 Vs Faughs Thursday 18th April
We welcomed back our trio of Division 1 Feile champions Davey Mulqueen, Charlie Mulqueen and Jamie Smith for our 4th league game vs Faughs, played on a lovely spring evening at the 12th lock. Faughs came at Lucan with real intent from the start putting Lucan under pressure on the ball and forcing ruck after ruck in the starting minutes. Gradually Lucan got to grips with Faughs battling spirit and a goal from our midfield dynamo Liam Garrigan eased any anxiety and allowed Lucan to ease into a 2-10 to 0-8 lead at half time. Lucan pushed on in the 2nd half with 9 players in total contributing to a 12 point win on a scoreline of 4-16 to 2-10. We had talked all week about reducing our number of wides and the lads really did well with not taking on low percentage strikes on the opposition goals, significantly reducing our wide tally versus previous outings.
