Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes Sunday 02 December

December 02, 2018

Well done to Minor A Camogie who beat Castleknock in the Shield semi-final. Hard luck to our Minor footballers who lost out in the Championship Final to Castleknock, also commiserations to our Minor B Camogie team who lost the Championship semi-final.

We are delighted to confirm Barry Whelan as our new Senior Football manager. Barry has previously worked with our Inter team and played Senior football with the club for over 15 years representing Dublin at minor level, and is owner of Endeavour Gym. He was formally ratified by the Executive on Friday following endorsement by the selection committee of Mick Bowler, Ben Murphy, Mick Kilduff, Paul Casey, Aidan Glover and Fergal Gavin.

Congratulations to our GPO David Moran who got engaged over the weekend.

A massive thanks to Dublin Senior Football Manager Jim Gavin and Dublin Senior Hurling Captain Chris Crummey who were on hard to say a few words to our U14 double winners and help hand out the medals. Lots of words of wisdom..for both parents and players.

The Christmas Draw tickets are out–All households/registered families should have received one book (10 tickets) to sell, if everyone makes a big effort just to sell one book this will be a HUGE success. It is a vital fundraiser for the club to ensure we can keep supporting our 140+ teams’ activities. There will be an opportunity to sell tickets in SuperValu in the coming period. We do ask Mentors to remind parents and members, players and supporters to return tickets ASAP.

Lotto There was no winner of the lotto on the 29th November; Numbers were 14, 15, 22 and 27. Next weeks’ jackpot €7,000, draw will be managed by Gerry McAndrew and is sponsored by Diamond and Gem Jewellers. Lucky Dip Winners: E+C+U Dardis, Brendan Wright, Mark Hanley, John Kennedy and Cathy + Willie O'Neill. Play Online here, Or Tickets can be purchased at the Club, or in Kenny’s Vesey Arms. Also this week we have the Turkey draw.

'End of an era. - We are sad to see that Carey's Newsagents have ceased trading after 41 years in Lucan Village. During that time, Tony Carey, his family and staff, have been a tremendous support to Lucan Sarsfields in their promotion of Gaelic Games. Tony's constant support of the Club's fundraising efforts, be it advertisements for our Race Nights, weekly Lotto sponsorship, Christmas Draw ticket sales, but not least, weekly Lotto ticket sales to a regular band of loyal supporters, was always guaranteed in a very businesslike but affable manner. The weekly Lotto result sheet posted up in Carey's was eagerly awaited by all to see who won the big one! From now on, we will have to go further west to get The Western People, The Connacht Tribune, The Clare Champion and The Leinster Leader amongst others. We will miss the Meeting Place that was Carey's shop floor where games were fought and won again on a Monday morning, without the fisticuffs. Lucan Sarsfields wish Tony and his extended family, every health and happiness in the future and hope that it will be blessed with an All Ireland Football success by his beloved Mayo! Go raibh maith agat, Antoine, agus do chlann.'
