Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes Sunday 08 July

July 08, 2018

A super win for our Senior hurlers in the league vs Kilmacud Crokes, 8pts down at half time a remarkable second half performance to win by 4, 3-20 to 1-22. Senior footballers also had a good win last week vs NaFianna. Not so good result for Juniors and Inter footballers during the week, Junior Bs went down in a hard fought game to Trinity Gaels, the late night training session unfortunately didn’t pay dividend.

Junior Ladies footballers lost out in the league to Castleknock. Two good wins for the U15 football teams with the A team very much in contention for league honours. 2 out of 3 wins for the U14 football teams with the U14A remaining in the top spot of the league.

Lots of midweek fixtures with Jnr B and Jnr A hurlers at home Monday and Tuesday night. Also with Dublin playing Saturday Senior footballers are due to play Olafs on Saturday morning at 10:30 up the club, also Inters have an important fixture at home to O’Dwyers on Sunday. Both Junior football teams are away on Sunday.

Well done to Mark Lavin, Matt Dunne and Jake Rooney, part Dublin minor footballers who have qualified for the Leinster Shield final. Also to Ali Twomey, Mairi Moynihan, Emma Flanagan and Orla Beagan who got back to winning ways with Dublin Senior Camogie team. Juvenile Football Report

Many of the teams are now on their Summer breaks but there are still some teams competing in their respective leagues.

In the U-12 league this week, Lucan 3 V Whitehall Colmcille 2 ended in an 8.7.- 8.7 draw.

The game could have went either way as we ended up with 9 players and were thankfully joined by C Gavin and B O;Keeffe making it 11

Whitehall raced into an early lead and continued to pressure the Lucan midfield and defence with some very fast movements on and off the ball. It took a while for Lucan to settle and eventually they got on the ball and worked it forward and got a couple of scores by C Gavin The game continued in that mode with Whitehall maintaining the lead.

In the last quarter Lucan seemed to find a second gear and took the lead going ahead by 6 points. In the final stages Whitehall came back into the game and got two goals and the draw was the end result.

The Lucan goalkeeper was man of the match again pulling off some terrific saves.

The team was M Brennan (GK) C Lawlor, O Corry, B O'Keeffe, S Geoghgan, H Geoghegan, E Walsh, F Haran, K O'Connor, C Gavin, S Walsh.

Lucan U14A vs Ballyboden St Endas

The last game before the summer break saw the U14As travel to Cherryfield to face Ballyboden for the second time this season.  Our first league game at home vs Ballyboden was a tight affair with Lucan only pulling away with almost the last kick of the game.  This time, however the lads didn’t want to hang around and hit the ground running holding Ballyboden scoreless playing with a wind in the first half and going in leading by 3-06 to no score.  Playing against the breeze in the second half the effort never let up as despite not having as much of the ball the lads saw the game out on a score line of 5-12 to 3-04.  No football for 7 weeks and the rest is more than welcome.  Super first half of the season for the panel.

Panel: Cathal Doody, Jack Doyle, Eoin Kilduff, Alex Hickey, Finn Bruton, Zach Delmar, Joey McSweeney, Rossa Daly, Rian Fortune, Joey Dunne, Conor Hylands, Charlie Mulqueen, Colin Duffy, Michael Cunningham, Davy Mulqueen, Gareth Kennedy, Jack Behan, Luca Kavanagh, Jamie Smith, Conor Sheary.

In the Under-14 League Division 7 clash, Lucan had a great win against Ballyboden on a score line of 3-04 to 0-08.

In the Under-16 League Division 4 clash, Lucan lost out to a strong Templogue Synge Street side on a score line of 4-13 to 2-07.

On Thursday evening, both of the Lucan U-15 football teams were in action.

The Lucan Sarsfields U15B took to rather dried out pitch in Palmerstown. It was warm 21 degrees as the match started this was this team's third outing in the league this year. St. Pats of Palmerstown sitting at top of the league with Lucan having two game's in hand, it was to be tense game. The match started of very fast with Pats taking some very quick scores Lucan where been rattled by them. However, Lucan settled down and started to take charge of game taking some great scores. Both teams battled to half way with Lucan controlling the game. Both teams returned to for what was to be a tough second in the conditions. Pats hit Lucan hard from the off point after point each team where scoring then to Lucan Sarsfields detriment Pats scored a  goal. Lucan gathered themselves and threw everything at Pats in last five minutes. Lucan missed two chances, Pats kicked out for the last kick of the game unfortunately it was kick to change the game. Lucan got possession and struck beautiful point to end the game as one point victors.

St.Pats Palmerstown 4-9

Lucan Sarsfields.  4-10

The Lucan U-15A footballers had a great win against Parnells in Division 3 of the league on a scoreline of 6-13 to 2-09. The Lucan boys were 12 points to 5 up at half time and still shot 14 wides. A much better second half performance saw Lucan get some great team scores and overall, there were 9 different scorers.

On Saturday then, there were two of the U-13 teams in action. In the U-13 Division 1 league, Lucan had a good win against Templeogue Synge Street on a score line of 8-15 to 4-05. In Division 10, Lucan fell to Fingallians on a score line of 3-10 to 3-03.
