Lucan Sarsfields 6-9 – Kilmacud Crokes 1-4

Lucan Sarsfields beat Kilmacud Crokes at Naomh Peregrines on Saturday 14th October to win the U14 Division 1 Championship.

Lucan imposed themselves from the start despite playing against the wind, with a goal from Sadhbh Murray hand passing the sliotar into the back of the Kilmacud net and Sophie McIntyre with a point. The full back line of Iona Quinn, Emma O’Connor and Ciara Dowling remained solid dealing efficiently and effectively with any threat Kilmacud posed.

With Lauren Dawson, Lily Rooney and Emma O’Brien posing a formidable barrier at half back with Kerrie Jones and Millie Reid driving forward from midfield and Ellen Lyons from the half forward line , Lucan pressed home their advantage and went 1-4 to 0-1 ahead after 20 minutes. Kilmacud settled then and scored the next three points, but their hopes of a comeback were dashed as Lucan responded quickly with a goal by Phoebe Shannon to lead 2-4 to 0-4 at half time.

With the wind behind them in the second half Lucan stretched the play across the full width of the pitch to create more space for their forwards and were able to pick off scores at regular intervals. Eabha O’Dowd remained solid in defence. Caoimhe McManus at full forward who created problems throughout the game for Kilmacud got a goal. Sophie McIntyre to top off her excellent performance darted in from corner forward for a second goal to add to her two points. Crokes pulled a goal back despite a great initial save from Alicia Rooney solid as ever in goal. Ashing Behan, Kate Byrne and Jessica Fitzgibbon fought hard in the forwards and make life extremely difficult for Kilmacud in their endeavours to get the sliotar forward. Lucan then extended their lead, including points from in front of the stands by Sinead Daly and Phoebe Shannon, to the very vocal delight of the large numbers of supporting Lucan fans. Sinead Daly then scored the final goal of the match. .

The player of the match went to a delighted Lily Rooney, and the cup was presented to captain Lauren Dawson, who is getting very good at making these speeches.

The management and team would also like to thank our sponsors Sean and Louise Walsh of S&L Walsh Construction Ltd t/a Advanced Attics who were there to support us on the day.
