September 23, 2017

For the latest news concerning Lucan Ladies Gaelic Football,

It’s All Ireland Finals Day, Dublin are back for the fourth year in succession to try and lift the Brendan Martin Cup for the second time. It is seven years since the only other time the dubs have won. Like their male counterparts, the Girls in Blue take on Mayo who have not won since 2003, beating Dublin that day by 2 points.

The game today gets under way at 4pm and Lucan Sarsfields Ladies Football will be there! We have three full double decker buses leaving the club this afternoon, over 160 juvenile players all hoping that Dublin can win today!!!

If you would like to go to the game, the ticket office on North Circular Road opposite Gills Pub is open from 10am. Tickets are priced at 10 for a u14, 15 for Students and Senior Citizens, and 25 for Adults.

In advance of the final, the Under 14 ladies are hosting two challenge games against Knockmore Gaa from Mayo. We would like to extend a warm and friendly welcome, and we look forward to a great display of football. We will of course be serving light refreshments, before we all head in to croker!!

Liz Balfe Memorial Charity Cup  - Adult Blitz

Just over a week ago, On Saturday 16th September, a group of golden oldies took part in the Liz Balfe Memorial tournament at St Mary's GAA club in Leixlip. Liz Balfe played on the first Lucan team back in 1991. She was only 14 playing as full back on an adult team. She was a fantastic player and an even better person. She was tragically killed in January 2016. A group made up mainly of her old team mates took part in the blitz. The group consisted of past and present Lucan Sarsfields members. Some ladies hadn't kicked a ball in over 10 years. However, that was not going to stop this group. Without substitutes and having played four matches, this group of ladies won the cup. Other teams commented on our lovely football and others thought we were actually still playing together. The ladies that togged out were: Jackie Buggle, Gillian Ryan, Melissa Walsh, Tracey O'Brien, Aileen Quinn, Audrey Murtagh, Trudy Keogh, Moureen Fitzharris, Gillian Mulqeen and Jackie O'Brien.

We want to thank the Mama Mia's for helping us out. It was a terrific day and a huge thank you to St Mary's for keeping us fed and watered. They were brilliant. Finally, a massive thank you to the Balfe family. They presented us with a fabulous cup in Liz's memory. This is annual tournament and Lucan Ladies have won the first two tournaments, so, lets make it 3 years in a row next year!!
