2011LF Our Story
Saturday 13th May 2023
Two u12 ladies football teams travelled to Ballyboden on Saturday. We were greeted by their mentor Owen, a former Lucan man, and with one of our own mentors an original Ballyboden man, there was some great banter between the mentors. However it was the super performance of all the girls that we were all talking about at the end. Two very exciting matches with great teamwork, wonderful scores, and fantastic skills on display. Well done to all the u12 girls.

Two of the U12 ladies football teams got a match in this weekend. They travelled over to Stillorgan on a very wet Saturday afternoon to play Kilmacud Crokes. The rain poured down for our warm-up but gradually eased and stayed dry then for most of the match. After missing their matches last weekend and their training session during the week the girls were delighted to be playing football. Both teams played very well and you could see the improvement as the game proceeded and the team work became apparent. We got a lovely reception from the mentors and U12 girls from Kilmacud Crokes and we look forward to welcoming them to Lucan Sarsfields later on this year. Big thank you to all our parents for their continued support and for all the encouragement they give the girls.

Saturday 4th March 2023
The U12 ladies football group had their first official football match on Saturday. We had 4 team, in total over 50 girls played. 2 teams stayed at home on AGP and played against St. Brigid's. All teams here played very well and were excited to be back at matches. Our 2 Lucan referees, Roisin and Cora were fantastic, taking time to explain to the girls why they blew the whistle so the girls learned a lot as well as enjoying their first game. The other 2 teams went down the road to St. Catherine's Park to play against Na Gaeil Oga. The girls were very excited about this one as many were class mates and this made it more competitive but also more fun. The referees here spoke to the girls in Irish, some of our non Irish speakers were a bit confused to start with but very quickly picked up all the Irish phrases. So lots of learning done here too. There was a great atmosphere at this match and the scores were very tight at the end. I'm sure there will be great conversations had in our two Irish schools this week.

AGP0 was packed on Saturday afternoon as over 80 U11 girls from Lucan and Ballinteer , played very entertaining football. It was great to hear so many positive comments from the sideline line and to see the girls working hard, showing off all their skills and enjoying the game. Thank you to the Lucan referees, especially those who came straight from an U10 match, who gave the girls plenty of encouragement while explaining why they had to blow the whistle. A great afternoon was had by all.

Our U8 girls football played at home to Castleknock on Sunday morning. We had forty girls all eager to play, our biggest number for an U8 game so far. The girls played very well. They all tried hard to put into practice all they had been learning at their training sessions, while having great fun and enjoying being part of a team. We had four fantastic Lucan Sarsfields girls as referees. They were great at showing the girls what they were making mistakes at, and complementing them when they got things right.

Our U8 girls played football away to Clontarf on Sunday morning. We had four teams and played three matches, giving all the girls plenty of ball. The girls were asked to focus on their passing and working as a team, which they did. Once again there was great positive encouragement from all parents.

Lucan Sarsfields v Naomh Olaf
Back to football for our U8 girls on a bright and warm Sunday morning. The girls worked very hard, and tried to use all the skills that they are learning. They are really beginning to work as a team and making sure that all the girls get plenty of ball. There was some lovely passes from lots of the girls, and all have improved at kicking and hand-passing, and we are beginning to see some soloing too. Once again our Lucan Sarsfields referees were fantastic with the girls, giving both teams lots of advice and encouragement.

Our U8 girls played football away to Templeogue Synge Street on Sunday morning.
Great to see them developing their skills, some great hand passing, soloing, and kicking, as well as some chatting and laughing. We played three games, and all the girls got loads of ball time. We even had time for a cartwheel race. Great fun. All looking forward to our first football blitz in 2 weeks.

Even with Communion season in full swing we were able to have four U8 girls football teams play at home on Sunday morning to Ballinteer St Johns. The last time these teams met was the girls first ever match, so there was great excitement from both teams to see each other again and to see how much they have all improved in such a short time. Great morning of fun, banter, and football.

U8 girls football, Lucan Sarsfields V Ranelagh Gaels.
Thankfully the rain stayed away for most of our U8 football match on Sunday morning. 30 girls proudly wore the green Jersey and really enjoyed playing for their club.
We received a lovely text later from Ranelagh Gaels saying thanks for hosting and that their girls enjoyed the experience. So a fun morning for all.
Sunday 7 April 2019
Our U8 girls played their first home football match on Sunday morning. Once again we had big number and were able to field 5 teams of 7. The girls played with great spirit and were given great encouragement from parents of both sides. Special thanks to Tom Casserly who stepped in as a 4th referee. Tom was delighted to be involved as his granddaughter Maisy is one of our U8 girls ( see photo)
