Monday March 18
U16 League Division 1 Ladies Football,
Na Fianna v Lucan Sarsfields,
St Patricks College, Drumcondra 4:45pm.
Due to pitch un-availability in Lucan for the last two weekends, this game was rescheduled for the Bank Holiday Monday in Drumcondra. Na Fianna got off to a great start with two fine goals from play, and it was midway through the half before Lucan registered their first score, a point from play. Playing up the slight hill on a pitch in surprisingly good condition after the recent wet weather, the Sars Girls got to grips with the game and created plenty of scoring chances, but were denied twice by Na Fianna and Dublin U16 Keeper, Molly Cassidy. Sophie Smith did get one past her though, but the north-siders added another goal of their own, and a few points, and it was the girls in green who were working hardest, going in at halftime 5 points down, Na Fianna 3:02, Lucan Sarsfields 1:03.
Lucan started the second half as they finished the first, challenging for every ball and along with another goal from Sophie, Kerrie Jones added one of her own making it was even-steven and all to play for. Both teams gave everything in a most entertaining and fair game, but it was the Lucan girls who came out on top. Na Fianna were unlucky to have what looked like a goal disallowed by the Referee, in probably the only controversial moment of the game. On another day this kind of decision would have gone against Lucan, but Sars did not rely on luck and instead made their own. Chloe Beirne added the fourth goal and with points from play from Mia Dunne and Ellen Lyons, Lucan hung on, despite a late surge from Na Fianna, to get their league campaign off to the best possible start. Final Score Na Fianna 3-06, Lucan Sarsfields 4-05

Sunday March 10
U14 LF Division 6, Sunday 10 March
Fingallians v Lucan Sarsfields
A great first league display by Lucan on a large damp pitch with a strong cross-wind. Both teams lined out with 14 players, as Fingallians were short, but Lucan had three subs and because of the conditions the referee allowed continuous rotation of players, which was put to good effect.
The size of the pitch and the challenging conditions kept scores to a minimum but Lucan managed their two goals and three points through a pressing game with lots of support running and passing. Fingallians did get two fine goals against the run of play but their equalising score had a lot of luck to it with the ball richocheting in off a Lucan player.
In the end we deserved to win narrowly but the girls should be satisfied overall with the way they played with less than the regulation amount of players on a full size adult pitch.
A great collective performance with some strong contributions from the six U-13s playing “up” this week. None of the girls ever gave in and they all kept chasing even though playing on the long, mucky pitch in the cold and wind would have been tiring.A fantastic game of football to watch.
Sunday March 3

Saturday March 2
Ladies U18/Minor Division 5, Saturday 2nd March, 2019
Templeogue Synge St 6:05 v 4:07 Lucan Sarsfields, Bushy Park
A historic day for Lucan Sarsfields, as it is the first time in the clubs history to have two competitive Minor Ladies Football teams in the same season.
The weather didn’t bode well for football today, as a strong wind and a rain sodden pitch made conditions difficult, but the Lucan girls were in fine spirits as they faced their first match of the season.
Templeogue were only able to field 12 players at the start of play so our team selection had to be amended at short notice, leaving five Lucan subs standing on the sideline in the rain. Sarsfields played with the wind but to no real advantage as our hosts played some good football against facing the breeze.
Scores cancelled each other out in the first half and it was a very close game in horrible conditions, injuries to two in Lucan players in the first half didn’t help matters and allowed our hosts to lead at the break.
With an extra player arriving for Templeogue the second half started with 13 players each making for a more even game on a pitch more suitable for 15 a side, Templeogue were spirited with the wind at their backs and were helped with the aid of a penalty. The Lucan girls never dropped their heads even though they were chasing the game and improved on the 1st half clawing back the difference in points. Unfortunately the whistle blew for full time with the final score 6:5 to 4:7 in favour of the hosts.
Even though the result wasn’t in our favour today, the commitment and attitude of all the girls will pay dividends in June.
U13 League Division 2, Saturday 2nd March
Lucan Sarsfields 7-07 v 0-09 St Vincents,
The final score masks the true nature of the match. If you compare the 14 scores we got to their 9 if gives a truer indication of how evenly matched both teams were. When Lucan passed accurately up the pitch, worked together and supported each other on the way, we clocked up our scores. When we randomly passed, Vincent’s didn’t fail to take their opportunities. We were delighted with the individual performances of the girls and with their overall work rate as a team. We appointed our first rolling Captain and she gave inspiring feedback. Each girl will get a chance to be Captain on a day to develop her leadership skills. Overall, a very good start to our season.
U12 LF Grading Games, Saturday 2nd March
Lucan Sarsfields v Clontarf, AGP1 and AGP0
The U12 LF squad was out today for their 1st grading games. We fielded 3 teams against Clontarf. The girls not only had to battle good oppposition but had rain and gale force winds thrown into the mix. As always they rose admirably to the challenge and won 2 out of 3 games. Brilliant start to an exciting year ahead.
U10 Go Games, Saturday 2nd March
Cuala v Lucan Sarsfields, Meadowvale
In a wet and windy Cuala our girls performed really well. Tacking was good and a lot of great team play. The girls showed some great team spirit which we are actively encouraging and it showed in the great performances shown in the matches.
Shane and Tom.
Sunday February 24
Castleknock B v Lucan Sarsfields B, St Catherines Park
Our U16B LF team played their first match of 2019. On a lovely afternoon, St Catherine Park was the venue, this was a great challenge with nothing between the teams. Well done to the girls. Congrats to Mia Fulton and Emma Palmer on their first match for Lucan Sarfields. Welcome back Samantha. Final score was Lucan 3-8 Castleknock 2-9.
Saturday February 23
Foxrock Cabinteely v Lucan Sarsfields, Kilbogget Park
A tough hard fought game, went right to the wire and Lucan unlucky to lose out by one point. Great determination and effort shown by all the girls including 2 new players!
Thursday February 21
DLGFA U16 Challenge
Lucan Sarsfields U18 v Dublin U16, 12th Lock 1
LS LF Minors welcomed a Dublin U16 team for a challenge game on the No. 1 Pitch at 8pm on Thursday 21 Feb. Lucan was well represented on the visiting team with 4 of our U16's on the Dublin panel for the evening. As it was their first game of the year, the Lucan minors were understandably rusty, especially given that the Dubs had been training together since early January. Despite some rugged defending by Lucan, Dublin managed to put away a few goals and some excellent points. Up front Lucan did manage a few scores, giving the mentors some clear pointers on areas that need to be worked on. All in all an entertaining game, giving the decent sized crowd plenty to applaud, especially the locals who got to cheer for both club and county at the same time!!
