Congratulations to Lucans Alan Murphy, Matt Dunne, Fintan Clandillon and Tommy Brennan, and all involved with the Dublin U20 hurlers who captured the Seán Robbins Cup in a thrilling 2020 Leinster championship decider against Galway in Tullamore on Wednesday evening.

We completed a 48 hour continuous event from 6pm on Friday 18th for Run4Pieta21 raising over €3000 for Pieta. Well done and thanks to all our volunteers who took slots to go walking, running or cycling to raise funds for Pieta. The long awaited start of the competitive Hurling season proved to be a very successful one as all four of our adult teams recorded comprehensive opening round league wins. The seniors started the weekend with a big Saturday evening win over Ballinteer St. Johns.  Last Sunday morning, our Junior A’s put on a great performance to beat St Vincent’s while the Junior B’s were big winners over Crumlin and on Sunday afternoon the Junior C’s had a very comfortable win over Na Fianna.

There were mixed fortunes for our camogie teams over the weekend, with the Inters, Junior 4 & 5s, and 16A’s recording wins, as also in juvenile hurling,  with the U14s and U15B’s winning in their qualifier games and two out of three for the U12’s.

In Ladies football, the Inters and Junior B’s recorded wins last week, and on Wednesday evening (23 June) the Junior b's had a comfortable win over Olafs, while the Inters suffered an uncomfortable defeat away to Templeogue Synge St.

All results and fixtures are available on the website.

Ladies Football Go-Games commenced last weekend, with almost 220 girls participating in glorious sunshine in the U8 to U12 age groups, and well done to all our referees in charge.

19/06/2021 - Go Ahead Adult Hurling League Division One South

Lucan Sarsfields 5-18 Ballinteer St Johns 2-13.

The visitors to the 12th Lock started well and got the first couple of scores and led 1-4 to 1-3 at the first water break with Eoghan O’Conghaile getting Lucan’s opening goal. Lucan gradually got on top and goals from Ciaran Dowling, Charlie Keher, and Peter Kelly helped them to 4-7 to 2-7 half time lead. It was one way traffic in the second half as Lucan added another O’Conghaile goal and some excellent points to win 5-18 to 2-13. Luke Walsh was outstanding at centre back with Ronan Smith as busy as always in mid field while Charlie Keher and Eoghan O’Conghaile were most prominent in a very effective full forward line.

Lucan team/scorers: D O’Neill, P Smith, P Rigney, P Claffey, M McCaffrey (0-1), L Walsh (0-1), R Ward, R Smith (0-1), C Keenan (0-2), P Kelly (1-1), D Flannery (0-2), C McHugh, C Dowling (1-5, 0-4f), E O’Conghaile (2-1), C Keher (1-3). Subs introduced: J Bellew, E Dowling (0-1), L Murphy, B O’Toole.

20/06/2021 - Go Ahead Adult Hurling League Division Five South

AHL5: Lucan Sarsfields 0-25 St Vincent’s 2-10.

A youthful Lucan Junior A team got their season off to a good start with this impressive performance against St Vincent’s in Marino. The opening exchanges were evenly contested and the sides were level 0-5 each at the first water break. Lucan had managed to get in front 0-10 to 0-8 by half time, thanks in part to a monster point from a free from goalkeeper Sean McClelland. Lucan faced the breeze in the second half but increased work rate and some hard running from the midfield and half forward line soon had the hosts stretched and Lucan tacked on a series of points with little reply at the other end. Vincent’s did get two goals in the final quarter but it was too little too late for them as Lucan were very comfortable winners 0-25 to 2-10.  McClelland was very effective in goal behind a very solid defence in which Luke Murphy and Gavan Millea were most prominent. The midfield pairing of Barry Aird and Eoghan O’Connor were on top in midfield while the impressive Emmet Allen led the scoring in a forward line where David Kavanagh and C J Smith also worked hard with effective direct running.

Lucan team/scorers: S McClelland (0-1f), T Beahan, R Twomey, A Sheehan, G Millea, L Murphy, D Reynolds, B Aird (0-1), E O’Connor (0-1), D Kavanagh (0-1), E Allen (0-13, 0-6f), I Crowley, E Dowling (0-2), CJ Smyth (0-1), D Kelly (0-2). Subs introduced: A Lee, O O’Brien (0-3), K Hogan.

20/06/2021 - Go Ahead Adult Hurling League Division Ten North Group 1

AHL10  Lucan Sarsfields 5-16  Na Fianna 2-8
The Lucan Junior C team was the last adult team to line out on the first hurling weekend of this delayed season. The 12th Lock was the venue for the visit of Na Fianna. Lucan started brightly with the aid of a slight breeze and went 0-4 into the lead with the pick of the scores a quick 65 that was worked to Charlie Caseley who put over the first of his four first-half points following the opener by Daraigh Quinn. A lively Eoin Power put over a score before finding the net having been put through by Josh Bryant. Na Fianna mounted a few attacks but Lucan defensive pressure forced a number of wides. Rob Hasley kept the scoreboard ticking over before a Jack McCarthy 65 went all the way to the net. Dean Boylan scored twice either side of a goal each.  A converted Na Fianna penalty was immediately cancelled out by our third goal courtesy of Hasley who restored our lead before Brian Fagan closed the scoring of the first half when Lucan led 3-12 to 1-2.

Na Fianna came into the game more in the second half and it took a Cian Ryan goal just before the water break to ensure that Lucan won the third quarter. Ryan found the net again just after the short break before a Na Fianna free was finished to the net from close range. Cian Canavan went on to save a second penalty using body and post before clearing to safety. Boylan closed the scoring to seal a win for Lucan on a final scoreline of 5-16 to 2-8. This was an all-round team performance with starters and subs all contributing without any loss in shape or dominance throughout the match.

Team and scorers: C Canavan; L Power, D Hassey, C O'Neill; D Lawlor, P Kennedy, D Coogan; J McCarthy (1-2 1-0 65), E Higgins; D Quinn (0-1), B Fagan (0-2), C Caseley (0-4); M O'Shea, Josh Bryant, E Power (1-1); R Hasley (1-2), D Boylan (0-4 0-2f), C Ryan (2-0), N O'Leary

The Under 12 Ladies Football team kicked off their season on Saturday in glorious sunshine on AGP1 against two teams from Cuala.

The girls put in a fantastic team display in both games, with some great passing moves throughout, very disciplined defending and racking up a score of 25 goals and 26 points between the two teams, in what was a great performance to kick off the year.

Before the matches the girls also completed their 30 minute a lot for the Run4Pieta with 42 girls participating over the half hour slot, and each averaging 1.5km each.

Forty seven u10 girls made their way to Bushy Park on Saturday morning to play their first match of 2021 to Templeogue Synge Street. We had four teams and each team got to play two matches, each 30 minutes long. The girls and mentors were excited to be back in action. Templeogue Synge Street were lovely hosts and the sun shone, giving a lovely atmosphere. The girls showed off all the skills that they had worked so hard on. We now look forward to playing at home this Saturday.

Senior Camogie.

Round 3 of the Cup threw up an away fixture to Ballyboden on Sunday last.

Lucan chose to play with the aid of a strong wind in the first half which enabled Amy to land her puck outs down in front of the Lucan full forward line. A strong opening 15 minutes from Lucan had us in front by 3 points at the water break, 5pts to 2pts.

The second quarter was a tighter affair with both teams sharing 8 scores leaving the score at half time 9-6 in Lucan's favour.

The opposition, now with the wind at their back, forced a lot more pressure on our backs in the second half.  They eventually managed to get through a solid defense to register the only green flag if the day leaving the score at the second water break at 12pts to 1-11.

Lucan were chasing the game from here on in, and only for some last ditch defending from the opposition,  Lucan might have rattled the net on more than one occasion.  The opposition got through on goal late in the game, and after a healthy tussle in around the square,  they were awarded a penalty. The opposition keeper ambled up the field and unleashed a ferocious effort, but it wasn't good enough to beat our Amy!

Final score

Opposition 1-15 Lucan 13pts

Special mention to Sinead Daly playing her first game at Senior level. Never took a step back and kept the corner back on her toes all through. The first of many games for Sinead in the Lucan Senior Jersey!

Next game is home to Faughs on Sunday 4th July at 10.30.

Please support.
