COVID-19 and our Gaelic Games

Following the Governments publication of the plans to return to normal after the restrictions, on May 6th the GAA published a return to action protocol update. While further clarity is being sought the plan at the moment it states that all GAA facilities are to remain closed and all clubs and counties are asked to restrict on-field activity until at least July 20. They also advised  that the Player Injury scheme is suspended and will remain so until an official return to action protocol is confirmed. On May 5th, the Camogie Association said they will be assessing the impact of the roadmap, and they announced an extension of the suspension of all camogie activities until June 8 at the earliest and it is possible this date will be extended. At the time of writing, the LGFA have not issued any update, however the CEO’s of both An Cumann Camógaíochta and the LGFA are part of the GAA COVID-19 Response Group, so it is conceivable that the three organisations will coordinate their planning in the best interests of all players and clubs.

A reminder to please note that the Club grounds and facilities are still being used by the HSE for Covid-19 testing and remain out of bounds to all, until handed back.

Our sincere condolences to the Dardis family on the death of Don's sister, Maeve Stapleton Smyth, in England, and to the Condon Family on the death in Australia of Johns sister Anne Maloney. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha

Lucan Sarsfields Senior football team ran in relays from Sunrise May 2nd to Sunrise May 3rd to raise some much needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and the #DoitforDan campaign. Organised by Brian Collopy and John McCormack, the event saw teammates run in pairs for two, one hour legs, during the 24 hour period. Sleepy heads gave way to heavy legs as the day progressed, with players running well over 20km each over the course of their two runs. The players would like to record their gratitude for the support and donations they recieved from the Lucan Sarsfields community and beyond, with over €7,600 raised for the chosen causes. A great way to give back while keeping fit as well.

Also last weekend, some of our Juvenile players also took part in the Dean Rock, Run Against the Sun to raise funds for Stewarts Care in Palmerstown, over €50000 was raised, double the anticipated amount! While the distance target was just 150km, the teams ran a combined total of over 750km, well done to all!

A little trip down memory lane, 25 years ago, our then intermediate footballers booked a place in the county final against St Vincents following their defeat of Raheny in the intermediate championship semi-final, held in Swords on Sunday May 7th.
