November 10th 2002 All -Ireland Ladies Junior Football Semi final Cappawhite (Tipp) 1-10 Lucan (Dublin) 1-4
Lucan lost against a very strong Cappawhite team on Sunday last in front of a record attendance at the 12th Lock. Playing with the wind in the first half Lucan were slow to start and trailed by 0-5 to 0-1 after 15 mins. We then gained a lot of possession with midfielders Patricia Gordon and Elena Griffin contributing strongly but couldn’t convert this into scores. In defence Tracey O Brien, Maeve Maguire and Anne O Shaughnessy excelled and helped keep Lucan's net intact despite serious pressure in the first half. We turned 3 points down but Anna McGillicuddy scored a superb goal on the restart to level the match. The next 10 mins were nip and tuck but then Cappawhite scored a goal which turned the match in their favour. We immediately responded and but for a brilliant save from the Cappawhite keeper could have drawn level again. Cappawhite then tagged on a number of points from frees at the end of the match. Scorers – A McGillicuddy (1-0), Regina Byrne (0-3), Angela Gallagher (0-1).
October 27th 2002 All Ireland Ladies Junior F/Ball Q/Final St Marys, Roscommon 1-10, Lucan 3-6
The adventure continued for the Lucan Ladies with a dramatic victory over the Roscommon Champions in Tarmonbarry last Sunday. Lucan started briskly with points from Angela Gallagher and Gillian Mulqueen(1-1) but were rocked mid-way through the first half by a soft goal from St Mary’s. The team gathered themselves and in a purple patch either side of halftime scored 3 great goals. The third goal by A Gallagher (1-2) put Lucan 7 points up but also signalled a great comeback from St Marys. They laid siege on our goal but great defending especially from Gillian Ryan and Maeve Maguire kept St Marys at bay.
Going into injury time Lucan were appoint up when the opposition broke clean through only for player of the match Anne Shaughnessy to pull off a match winning save by turning the ball around the post. All the squad would like to thank the hundreds of supporters who travelled to support.
