Under 13 Hurler’s Trip to Waterford and Kilkenny

The Under 13 hurlers travelled south to take on Waterford and Kilkenny sides.  The group of 25 hurlers were accompanied by 11 parents.  Lucan won their first match against St Paul’s of Waterford.  St Paul’s are a new club in Waterford City but were no match for the Lucan lads.  The match was played on the senior pitch at the famous Mount Sion hurling Club.  That evening the group went Greyhound Racing in Waterford where one of the races was named after the Lucan Sarsfields Under 13 Hurling Team.

After a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning the team headed to Mooncoin for their second game.  The game was played on the senior pitch which has one of the best grass surfaces in the country. This was a tougher game with both sides exchanging scores in the first half.  Lucan then got on top and pulled away towards the finish.

The only disappointment of the weekend came on Sunday evening when Lucan, having travelled back from Kilkenny, played Oliver Plunketts in the final league match of the season. A victory for Lucan would have put them in joint first place in the league but alas, this third match in two days was just a bridge too far.  Lucan had no answer to the sharper Plunkett’s side. A disappointing end to a very enjoyable season. Role on 2008.
