Lucan Under 15 Captain Brian Creed accepts the B Championship cup on behalf of his team, dedicating it to the memory of Seamus Morris RIP. who managed this team until his untimely illness in 2004. This final was played on a perfect Sunday morning for football in the Naul in front of huge support from Lucan and Castleknock.
U15 ‘B’ Championship Final Lucan 3-11 Castleknock 2-8 Lucan’s U15A footballers took the County Title after a fine display against a talented and sporting Castleknock side. After narrow defeats in big competitions in recent years they finally came good against a team consisting of several Féile winners. ‘Knock started the brighter but when Lucan settled they displayed a fine brand of football using every inch of a great pitch in The Naul, North County Dublin. T Jackman was in fine form and went on to notch up 1-6. Man of the Match D Geheran scored 2-0. O Ennis put in a huge effort at wing back and one burst up the field, an intelligent lay off and a Lucan point was typical of his play. The backs led by M McCaffrey and A Parsons dealt brilliantly with Castleknock efforts at goal late in the match. Both C Hayes 0-1 and E O Conghaile 0-1 were prominent throughout. B Creed, Captain and L Alia got huge possession at midfield. L McClelland 0-2 was back to his best and E Casey chipped in with a point as well as hitting a well directed free which dropped short but led to an important goal. S McClelland brought off a number of great saves. Delighted Captain B Creed dedicated this fabulous win to the memory of Seamus Morris who managed this team from nursery until his untimely death.

U14AF Lucan 1-9 St. Annes 2-6 The first game of the U14 season saw Lucan withstand a determined second- half Annes comeback. Lucan started at speed and built up an early lead and with an Eoin Grey goal went 1-5 to no score in front. The Bohernabreena side then began to come more into the game but dogged defending by Lucan kept the concession of scores to a minimum. An unfortunate breakdown in communications let Annes in for a fortuitous goal. HT Score: Lucan 1-6 St. Annes 1-1. Playing against the elements and a hard tackling opposition Lucan had to work very hard to stay in contention after the break. The game was regularly interrupted by frees for Lucan but an Annes goal with nine minutes left sparked them into a purple patch scoring three points and going into a two point lead. We struck back with two late frees and earned a deserved point. The full- back line of Seán McClelland 0-1, Brian Creed and especially Donie Geheran, who brought off some spectacular blocks, were in great form. Laurence Alia impressed at mid-field. Seán Newcombe was a constant threat and Eoin Casey’s 0-7 steady free taking punished the visitors. Other scorer: Alan Parsons 0-1.

Report on 2004 Season
Deepest condolences to Aileen, Jordan, Jade and Dylan from everyone involved with this team on the recent sad death of Seamus Morris. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hAnam.
Following poor form in the Round Towers Cup, we were relegated to Division 2. Despite starting the new league with a comprehensive win over St. Brigid’s of Blessington we found Division 2 was not going to offer us a quick route back to the top flight.
New Manager: Seamus Morris and Herbie McClelland stepped down during the year after many years with this team. Highlights of a successful run are winning the South Dublin Division 2 title at U9 and bringing the team to Division 1 where we competed for many years, winning the 2003 Summer League and getting to the final of the John Humphreys Memorial tournament. The parents acknowledged Seamus’s and Herbie’s great contribution to the team at a special presentation ceremony held at the clubhouse. Seán McCaffrey has taken on the onerous role of managing the Under-13As and we wish him and all the players the very best of luck at Under-13 level.
League Division 2: The second- half of the season consisted of games against St. Annes, St. Mary’s and the St. Judes B team. The Under-13 leagues are organised on an all-County basis and the main objective towards the end of 2004 was to gain a mid- table slot and increase our chances of a playing in the higher Under-13 divisions. An October defeat to St. Mary’s by 6-10 to 4-8 did not help our cause. We had a good win over Judes at Tymon Park and defeat followed against St. Annes. Two matches left to salvage the 2004 season and first up was St. Mary’s at Arthur Griffith Park. We prevailed by 5-11 to 5-4. In one of our best performances for some time Lucan captured two valuable league points. A Parsons 1-1 playing at mid- field scored a spectacular top- corner goal, which set the tone for a lively committed Lucan display. When T Jackman 2-3, who was prominent throughout, added a second goal followed by a J Morris goal we were looking at a much-needed win. A reshuffled line-out saw good performances by S Clancy 1-1, J Morris, A Dunphy, T Jackman, S McClelland, L McClelland 0-2 and J Manley at full- back. Other scorers: S Newcombe 0-2, E Casey 0-1, D Geheran 0-1.
In the final game of the Under-12 season, we hosted St. Annes at the 12th Lock and eased past the Bohernabreena side 5-7 to 1-0 and finished comfortably in the middle of the Division 2 table. Playing at the 12th Lock, instead of our usual AGP, the bigger pitch suited our players. Enjoying the freedom of the wider spaces, Lucan played some good combination football throughout and enjoyed a dominance rarely seen this season. G Markey 2-1, who had a very good game, was brought down on his way to goal and Seán Newcombe slotted home the resultant penalty. Good outfield play saw a great ball through to J Morris 1-0 who scored an excellent goal. Lucan’s first- half dominance continued in the second- half and we ran out easy winners. Impressive games from M McCaffrey, A Dunphy, E Grey, L McClelland 1-0, S Clancy 0-1, A Parsons. S McClelland was outstanding covering acres of ground. Other scorers: D Geheran 0-1, E Casey 0-1, T Jackman 0-1. We hope this carries on into the Under-13 season!
Christmas Party: Players and parents enjoyed a post-match party and quiz hosted by Paul Stapleton.
Training: Training continues at the 12th Lock on Tuesday evenings at 6.45 p.m.
Player of the Year: Matthew McCaffrey was player of the year for 2004 and Aidan Dunphy was the most improved player. Support: Many thanks to everyone who helped with the team, refereeing, umpiring, training, pitch preparation and transportation and to all the parents for washing the gear and supporting the team.
